Decorating wine glasses. Decorated wedding glasses using decoupage technique. Decor of the bride and groom's wine glasses with ribbons

The art of decorating has an interesting backstory. The ability to transfer a design from one surface to another or attach an applique to a decorative item has been improved over time, with new techniques and materials being used to achieve a better effect. Today, decoupage elements are used to decorate the interior with your own hands, create bracelets or souvenirs. The technique allows you to turn even an ordinary thing into a real masterpiece.

Ideas for decoupage of glasses for a wedding

The technique of decoupage or engraving of glasses has long gone beyond simply transferring images. Now there are many styles that look good at a wedding.

The first thing you need to do is determine in what style the decoration will be created. Provence and Victorian are popular. They are most suitable for the occasion.

  1. Most often, champagne glasses are made in the style of the bride and groom. One is emphatically white, with airy decorations, the second is black with several light accents.
  2. The second most popular is the creation of identical glasses, hand-painted, made in a simple style, and the color palette of the celebration.
  3. There are two ways to apply an image - on a prepared background, and on clean glass. Depending on the chosen method, with the same drawing the result will be radically different.
  4. Images must be used; if there are birds, then only in pairs, most often swans or doves.
  5. Decorative elements must include drawings with acrylic paints and contours on glass.
  6. The use of satin ribbons and bows along with delicate images and roses is suitable for a wedding in a classic style.
  7. Lace on a glass to match the surrounding interior, dress, beautifully decorated candles or the bride’s bouquet can both highlight the beauty of the image and be the main element of the decor.
  8. For more elaborate celebrations, glitter, feathers and rhinestones are suitable.

It is important to remember that the glasses should be chosen as simple and smooth as possible, then the image will lie flat.

How to make decoupage of glasses for a wedding with your own hands - 2 master classes

Since decoupage of wedding glasses depends only on imagination and the desired result, it is best to show several examples that will demonstrate the basic technique.

The main thing in this decoration option is to think through the design and carefully bring it to life.

  1. Dish detergent.
  2. Alcohol or nail polish remover.
  3. Rice paper.
  4. Cotton pads.
  5. Sponge.
  6. Small flat brush.
  7. Contour on glass or ceramics (special coating sold in tubes with pointed tips).
  8. Masking tape.
  9. Palette knife (spatula used by artists working with oil paints).
  10. Decoupage glue.
  11. Acrylic paints and varnish.
  12. Fan-shaped brush.
  13. A napkin with an image can be either special or regular.
  14. Wineglass.
  15. Glossy acrylic varnish.

At the preparatory stage, you need to wash the glass well with detergent, and then dry it with a cotton towel.

The outer surface is degreased with alcohol or acetone. After this, you can only touch the glass through a clean cloth.

At the first stage, you need to cover the edge of the glass with tape so that particles of paints and varnishes do not accidentally get into your mouth.

The required amount of rice paper is cut so that it overlaps the glass. After this, it is applied to the glass and moistened with water using a fan brush. Excess material is carefully torn off. The wet surface is covered with decoupage glue and left to dry.

The backing is separated from the napkin and the design is cut out. Due to the fact that the material is very thin, it is difficult to work with, so before you start gluing it, it is recommended to spray hairspray on it. After this, the image is applied to the glass and covered with glue using a flat brush.

Acrylic varnish is applied to the dried base. The stem of the glass is decorated with crystal paste and an outline. All that remains is to remove the tape - and the wedding glass is ready.

This video shows one of the options for decoupaging glasses:

You will need everything from materials except crystal paste, rice paper and a palette knife. But this method requires an acrylic primer.

Masking tape is applied to the cleaned glass in accordance with the plan. Unlike the previous method, this method allows you to create areas clear of decor not only around the edge of the glass.

A primer is applied to the site of the future decoration. To do this, use a small sponge that is slightly soaked in the material. To avoid drips and smudging, as well as pimples, apply the sponge to one place for 1-2 seconds.

When the primed surface is completely dry, paint is applied to it in the same way. The contours are painted with a very thin brush. To make the lines even, you can glue a strip of tape running along the workpiece. Once dry, all restrictive material must be removed.

The prepared image is applied to the glass and, holding it on both sides, they begin to cover it with decoupage glue from the middle to the edges. When the drawing dries, the transition from the napkin to the primer is painted over with a sponge.

The dried decoration is coated with acrylic varnish in 2–3 layers. Then they begin to create lace using the outline.

Paint is applied to the stem of the glass and the outline of the primed area with the image using light dotted movements.

Decoupage is one of the best and most beautiful ways to separate the newlyweds' glasses from the main body. A huge number of photographs from the celebration include these elements of the table, so it is important that they are memorable and in harmony with the main style of the celebration.

Wedding glasses: interesting ideas for decoration (23 photos)

The newlyweds have already sent out invitations, thought about the accommodation of the guests and ordered a festive dinner at a chic restaurant. The first turmoil has subsided, and it’s time to think about the pleasant additions to the celebration. To make wedding photographs original, you need to take care of various accessories in advance. A photo session with glasses is an integral part of the ceremony. Many people wonder how to decorate wedding glasses with their own hands. Suitable for decoration:

  • Beads;
  • Outline stickers;
  • Lace;
  • Beads;
  • Rhinestones;
  • Satin and silk ribbons;
  • Flowers;
  • Napkins for decoupage;
  • Stained glass and acrylic paints.

General rules for working with glass

Regardless of how you decide to decorate your wedding glasses, paint them or decorate them with beads, they must be washed and degreased before starting work. This can be done using a napkin or cotton pad soaked in alcohol.

You can temporarily cover the edge of the glass with 2 cm of masking tape - this will be a border beyond which you cannot glue decor or apply paint. When decorating with volumetric elements, it is important to remember that it is better to distribute them closer to the stem of the glasses. If you neglect this advice, rhinestones or flowers will touch the lips of the bride and groom and drinking from glasses will be uncomfortable.

To glue glass with decor, it is logical to choose transparent glue, which, after hardening, can be wetted with water without fear that the decor will come off. It could be:

  • PVA;
  • Super glue based on cyanoacrylate;
  • Silicone;
  • Adhesive moment for crystal and ceramics;
  • Glue gun.

The main thing in the work is accuracy; the glue should not protrude from under the decoration and dry out in streaks. You can try your hand at decorating on a regular glass or bottle.

Let's look at how to decorate wedding glasses with your own hands using examples.

Painting wedding glasses is the most painstaking and complex work, requiring certain skills in using a brush and painting on convex objects. Paint for glass and ceramics is used to paint the main pattern, floral patterns or individual color spots. Paint the glass from top to bottom so as not to smear the non-dried elements with your hand. After the surface has dried thoroughly, you can continue decorating with beads, roses from ribbons or small voluminous flowers. Acrylic paints and varnishes are also suitable for painting.

Dot painting with white paint on glass looks solemn and gentle, and the ease of application makes this decor attractive even for beginners. Unlike ordinary painting, you don’t need to ensure that the lines are the same thickness - there simply aren’t any. All silhouettes of flowers, hearts and even inscriptions are made up of dots of different sizes. To add volume, rhinestones can be glued into images and the centers of flowers.

Visually, it will seem that champagne in glasses painted with white paint “plays” stronger.

Original glasses are obtained by using a wedding theme: cute white doves, rings, hearts and images of the bride and groom hint at a pure and tender relationship and give the glasses a festive feel.

How to make wedding glasses personalized? Why put initials? It would be great if, in addition to the wedding decoration, the first letters of their names are written on the glasses of the bride and groom. They can be preserved as a symbol of the fragility of family relationships, so that we can remember this happy day together. If time permits, you can prepare personalized wine glasses for all guests. In this case, the guest's initials and the date of the event are placed on the glass. At the end of the evening, all those present can take away glasses in memory of the wedding.

Home made artificial snow

You certainly liked our useful master class on decorating glasses with artificial snow?! And as soon as you decided to take this creative step on your own, you were faced with the problem of the lack of this material. Of course, you can purchase it in a store, as noted above, but in order to save money, it is possible to make such a snow miracle with your own hands for the New Year 2022 to decorate something. If you want to know how, then quickly delve into the information we provide.

To work you will need:

  • corn starch - 2 packs;
  • shaving foam;
  • flavored extracts optional;
  • glitter or mica for best effect.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Pour the prepared cornstarch into a deep container and add a little shaving foam to it. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly with a spoon so that the mass acquires all those natural qualities that are inherent in real snow - looseness, flowability and pleasant frostiness - in our case, coolness.
  2. To achieve shimmer, it is recommended to enrich the artificial mixture with some glitter or mica. So, the snow made by yourself will shimmer in the light of mechanical garlands, which looks very excellent.
  3. At the end of your work, in order to give the artificial snow some expressiveness, add a few drops of some extract, for example, mint, to the general mixture; believe me, everything will be much nicer, more aromatic and interesting. So, for the New Year 2022, you will be able not only to decorate glasses in a winter style, but also to create a wonderful mood for the entire environment in your home, because with such wonderful material you can literally decorate and express literally the entire interior down to the smallest detail.

Decoupage wedding glasses

There are entire sets for wedding decoupage in stores. The technique is simple and understandable even for a beginner, and the bride and groom will completely cope with the creative task:

  • Cut out your favorite images from napkins;
  • Coat the surface of the glass with PVA;
  • Gently press the napkin to the glass, spread it over the surface using a brush with glue so that there are no folds;
  • After the napkin has completely stuck and dried, finish drawing or adding inscriptions with acrylic paint;
  • Use sparkles, rhinestones or lace to complete the design.

An ice bucket for champagne will look good in the interior if you use the decoupage technique in the same style as when decorating glasses and bottles.

Tools

In addition to the materials listed above, to decoupage glass glasses you will need:

  • Brushes: flat, with artificial bristles - for applying glue, thin round - for painting, thick round - for joints.
  • Foam sponges. Convenient for applying primer, varnish, final leveling of paper and removing excess water.
  • Scissors. Convenient to use manicure or medical instruments.
  • Multifora (file).

After all materials and tools have been prepared, you can begin to work.

Decoration of glasses according to wedding theme

Themed weddings make the task of home decorators easier. They give you the opportunity to use your imagination in the design of wedding accessories. Based on the chosen direction, you can easily design wine glasses and glasses in the desired range and with original details.

Wedding glasses in rustic style

What is rustic design? The word rustication comes from the Latin rusticus. Literally translated it means rough, rustic, simple. But at the same time it also means natural, natural.

A wedding in a village has become very popular in the modern world. Pompous crystal glasses would be out of place at such a celebration, but those simply decorated with natural fabrics and wildflowers would be very appropriate.

To decorate a festive table and wedding glasses in a rustic style, you do not need any specific or expensive elements. The main palette of the style is natural shades of grass, wood, earth and sky. Suitable for design:

  • Wildflowers;
  • Cotton fabrics;
  • Tapes;
  • Natural lace;
  • Various twigs;
  • Cones;
  • Acorns;
  • Moss.

Your imagination and the materials chosen for this will tell you how to decorate wedding glasses. The groom can cut out the initial letters of names, doves or connected hearts from wood or glue from twigs, while the bride will design the wine glasses, decorating them with burlap, flowers and floral patterns. You can secure the elements on the glass with glue, and on the leg with unusual green and red ribbons or harsh rope.

Glasses for a wedding ceremony in a nautical style

Suitable for decorating in a marine style:

  • Chains;
  • Cords “under the rope”;
  • Sea stars;
  • Pearl;
  • Anchors and steering wheels;
  • Improvised small life preservers;
  • Satin ribbons in white, red and blue;
  • Net;
  • Striped fabric.

You can tie beautiful striped bows on the stems of the glasses, or wrap them with cord. Draw gold anchors and red hearts on the glass. As an option, you can consider decorating the glasses with faux pearl beads or small pebbles.

If the wedding ceremony is taking place outdoors, you can take care of homemade funny caps with satin ribbons for the glasses, which will protect the contents from unwanted objects in the form of dust and midges.

You can also decorate wedding bottles in a nautical style. To do this, it will be enough to distribute a drapery of striped or blue fabric over the “body” of the bottle and decorate the neck with a mini lifebuoy, or a small metal chain with an anchor. Bottles that create the effect of “dipping in sand” look beautiful. Decorating the bottle is easy. To do this, it is first lubricated with glue and then sprinkled with sand. Small starfish and shells are glued on top as accents. The bride or groom can place the names and date of the event on the sandy side of the bottle using small pebbles secured to the surface with a glue gun.

Interesting ideas

The tradition of breaking dishes “for good luck” has gone deep into the past; it has been replaced by a new trend - to preserve your wedding wine glasses as the very first family treasure and a real heirloom. They stay with spouses for many years and are even passed on to their children, and on each family anniversary they are taken out of a secluded place and placed on the festive table to once again remember the most tender, romantic and tender moments of their day.

It is better to immediately abandon all types of purchased paraphernalia, since the production that has been put into production is unlikely to offer anything worthy for such a special event. Most newlyweds prefer exclusive jewelry that will fully match the theme and style of the wedding, as well as the personal tastes and characteristics of the newlyweds.

Regardless of who exactly will be decorating the wedding glasses, the first thing you need to do is choose the appropriate option from the many existing decor ideas. Typically, one of the following designs is used:

  • trimmed with satin ribbons;
  • lace or burlap;
  • cloth;
  • large and small sparkles;
  • rhinestones or beads;
  • engraving;
  • painting with paints;
  • with fresh flowers, as well as those sculpted from clay and cold porcelain.

Some newlyweds prefer to decorate only the stem of the wine glass, and paint an engraving or monogram on the walls. Some create more voluminous jewelry.

Anyone who decides to decorate their wedding glasses with shimmering sparkles, as well as rhinestones or beads, will not go wrong, because this consumable always looks extremely festive and solemn. The pattern on such a glass is made in any thematic pattern, only so that one side of the glass remains undecorated.

The simplest pattern is formed with one- or two-color material. In this case, various monograms, hearts, names of young people or simple curls are laid out with rhinestones. If desired, you can apply more complex patterns - to do this, they are printed on plain paper, applied from the inside and along the lines, and glitter is placed.

If the rhinestones scatter chaotically, then they should completely cover the glass from below, and leave only individual droplets at the edges.

Decorating with glitter is much simpler - you just need to dip a thin brush in glue, then in glitter, and draw a pattern or draw a design.

Products decorated with openwork lace look very delicate, and making such decor is not at all difficult - you just need to cover the outer part of the wine glass with fabric. Usually golden or silver lace is used, but lurex in tones of ivory and vanilla looks no less impressive. The shade of the fabric should match the overall color scheme of the wedding.

The elegant belt at the very base of the wine glass looks quite stylish; wine glasses with a lace “skirt” also look interesting. If desired, it is worth supplementing the decoration with various relief elements - flowers, as well as leaves and many other details.

Openwork materials are often combined with flowers and beads, but it is important not to overdo it - wedding glasses should become an elegant thing, and not a tacky bad taste.

Ribbons can give a solemn look to absolutely any product; they perfectly complement openwork lace, painting and shiny rhinestones. Smooth ribbons of shiny material wrap around the legs, as well as the glasses themselves. Stylish roses are made from them and even whole bouquets are glued to glass, complementing them with beads and glitter.

Most often, plain ribbons are chosen to decorate glasses, but multi-colored materials can also be used - for example, black, dark gray, blue and light blue colors are suitable for a newlywed, and white and soft pink shades are preferable for a young wife.

Artistic painting of glasses has become a very worthy idea, but it should only be used if the bowl remains clean and only the stem of the glass is covered with paint. Then the sketch becomes a basic element of decor. Typically, acrylic paints are used for painting.

Glasses decorated with feathers look quite extravagant. Of course, such decoration is unlikely to be suitable for a classic wedding, but for themed events it is just right. Feathers go well with similar decor on the young wife’s dress, and such glasses also look good if similar decorations are present in the bouquet. Feathers are usually combined with beads, sequins and flowers. By the way, this option is most often used when organizing a wedding celebration in the style of Chicago; in this case, lush feathers harmonize very well with the entire decor and costumes of the invited guests.

How to choose the right option?

When ordering decorations for wedding glasses, young people sometimes “get their eyes wide open” from the abundance of luxurious and stylish options. To make the right choice, you should take into account a number of basic recommendations.

  • The design of the wine glasses should be optimally integrated into the overall theme of the wedding celebration. If you are holding an event in a rustic style, then the wine glasses can be draped with burlap. If the design is carried out in the traditions of vintage and shabby chic style, then you should give preference to lace, ribbons or cameo.
  • It is very important that the color scheme of the glasses is in harmony with the main shades that prevail in the decor of the room where the celebration is being held. The color palettes must match; the use of contrasting shades is strictly prohibited. For example, the orange decor of the wine glasses is unlikely to fit into a silver or lilac wedding, and gold in the dishes will look out of place with a silver shade of the room.

It is important that the glasses harmonize well with each other both in style and color. They should be a single tandem, personifying lovers and emphasizing the main theme of the event.

Let's talk a little about glasses. Their shape should be quite beautiful and comfortable, since the young spouses will have to hold them in their hands for quite a long time.

Traditionally, wine glasses with an elongated thin stem are used , although you can choose some other options. For example, paired wine glasses on one common stem are quite popular - they, in fact, represent a rather attractive stand with a pair of recesses into which glasses are inserted. If desired, you can give preference to hexagon-shaped glasses, concave glasses and other original products.
