The experience of a bride, or How to organize a wedding on your own. Part 1

In every girl’s life, at least once, an event occurs when a loved one suddenly gets down on one knee (well, or doesn’t, depending on who you are) and makes a marriage proposal. Of course, in most cases, the girl agrees, and after calling all her family and friends, when the euphoria begins to wear off, the understanding comes that a wedding is good, but we need to prepare for it! And then a race begins that lasts (hmm, depending on who) a whole little life.

In my series of articles, I want to share my experience of independently organizing a wedding of two creative people with a small budget (by the way, in this case, being a creative person is not a plus, but a huge minus , which I will discuss in more detail later). In a series of my short sketches, I will talk about possible problems, difficulties when organizing a wedding, interesting ways to save money and make your celebration truly unique.

Well, let's begin. When this happiness happened to me, at first I was a little confused (no, not a little, but very, very much), and then I began to think, what to do? Of course, the first thing I turned my attention to was the wedding dress and the groom’s outfit (as an addition to the dress). This is exactly what will be discussed in the first part of my long story.

Nowadays, the choice of wedding dresses is so rich that it makes your eyes wide open when you are not used to it. Price categories: whatever you like! From 2,000 rubles to 300,000 rubles (and this is only in online stores). What’s a shame is that the price does not always indicate the quality and beauty of the dress, as I was convinced of after visiting wedding salons.

Note to brides: if you want to save money on buying a dress, but at the same time dream of a princess outfit, both in appearance and in price, then choose a dress from December to March. At this time, wedding salons, in view of the small number of buyers, begin to make big discounts and sell their old collections (at the same time, even if your dress is altered, you will still be given a discount).

I started my dress selection in November. The first thing I encountered was a lack of understanding of what style of dress I needed. In this regard, I tried on all the popular styles and can proudly tell you a little about each.

Let's look at a few main styles with their pros and cons:

1. Dress with rings.

Pros:

+ corset upper part, which allows you to emphasize your breasts (I do not recommend it for those with large breasts, since in such a dress the innocent image of the bride turns into something from an 18+ movie);

+ wide skirt to hide figure flaws;

+ a large number of decorations on the top;

+ and the most important plus is that this dress is very reminiscent of the Disney princess dress that any girl born in the 90s dreamed of as a child.

Minuses:

- the dress is insanely heavy! When I tried it on, my fragile back (I weigh 55 kg) bent into a “chess knight” figure, my legs gave way, and an obsessive thought was spinning in my head: “Why did they put THIS on me?!” So those brides who want to wear such a dress for the entire wedding day should be prepared for a lot of workload and possible fatigue even before the end of the holiday;

— a skirt with hoops is extremely uncomfortable both while walking and for sitting at a table or in a car. It looks especially ugly when the bride, tired from a hard day, begins to show all the guests her underwear, sitting on a chair and getting into the car. (Dear ladies, don’t forget that girls, even though they are princesses, also, I apologize, go to the toilet, and in a dress with rings this turns into an incredible adventure);

- a huge amount of crinoline on the skirt. Yes Yes Yes! This is a huge minus. From the outside it looks unrealistically beautiful, but in the case of a photo shoot outdoors in spring and summer, you will arrange for your girlfriends an unforgettable quest “Get blades of grass and small insects from hundreds of folds of a skirt.”

2. Dress “Fish”.

Pros:

+ will perfectly highlight your figure, hiding small imperfections (wow, it’s not a girl, but a sweetie). But here it is worth noting that it is very difficult to find such a dress for girls with large figures;

+ creates an incredibly sophisticated look, emphasizing the waist;

+ highlights your hips, makes your butt almost Brazilian, even if in fact it is as far away from Brazilian as Moscow is from New York.

Minuses:

- hard corset. At best, your ribs will hurt a little after the wedding; at worst, you may lose consciousness right during the wedding dance (the move, of course, is original, but not very pleasant);

- very narrow skirt. If you have planned a long walk, be prepared for a lot of inconvenience when moving.

3. Straight dress (this includes both Greek and A-line).

Pros:

+ not heavy, which allows the bride to dance the entire wedding and not curse everyone and everything around her;

+ fits well if tailored correctly to your figure;

+ many variations are possible both in the decorative design of the dress and in the form of its execution.

Minuses:

- long skirt to the floor. It becomes a minus when it is hemmed incorrectly (either too short or too long). Therefore, pay close attention to this, because a bride falling in a registry office is not the most beautiful sight, although it is quite funny;

- endless trail. Both the groom and the bride can step on it (and God forbid, the skirt comes off the dress). Let’s also not forget that after a walk it gets very dirty, and if the weather is rainy, the long train will turn gray or even black.

In addition to the style of the dress, an important factor when choosing it is the time of year in which you will formally wear it. A frozen blue bride in an open dress in the rain in October looks like a fairy-tale princess, but not a Disney princess, but one of the blue-blooded fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. On the other hand, if in 30-degree heat a once-beautiful bride walks through the park, barely moving her feet and smearing makeup on her wet face, drowning in a crinoline that has already sagged to the utmost, then even the photographer will not be able to save your image at the wedding photo shoot. Therefore, do not forget that it is better to choose a dress that is warmer in winter, and lighter in summer (the same applies to the groom’s suit, but more on that in the next part).

The next part of choosing the look was the color of the dress.

According to modern trends, stark white dresses are finally becoming a thing of fashion, and ivory, beige and cream dresses are taking their place. If you do not want to deviate from wedding canons, then these colors will fit perfectly into the overall image.

If in your dreams you only saw yourself in a perfectly white dress, then it is quite possible to make it original. For example, you can complement such a dress with a bright belt in the color of the bouquet (just don’t forget to complement the groom’s suit with this color), or embroider it with beads of a different shade. You will see for yourself that the dress will sparkle much brighter. There are also other charming solutions for a classic wedding dress.

As for me personally, after trying on about a hundred white dresses, I realized that almost all of them in white lose half of their attractiveness. And I decided to take a risky step: I moved away from all traditions and chose a straight dress with an open back in powder color.

Dear brides, I didn’t regret it at all, since it was with my outfit and the color of the dress that I made an absolutely stunning impression on both the guests and many other newlyweds before the registry office. So if you want to stand out from hundreds of other brides in places where they are especially concentrated (registry office, park), and in general make your wedding a UNIQUE event, feel free to take risks with the colors of your dress, I guarantee you a storm of emotions.

Once the dress is chosen, you must buy shoes. I would like to point out right away that heels are very beautiful, but terribly impractical. If you don't want to die from sore feet by the end of the evening, then it's better to give up high heels. For example, I preferred a wedge heel: it made my gait more graceful and at the same time did not turn me into a stricken grasshopper by night.

Be sure to have your dress hemmed at the salon to match your shoes, otherwise you risk falling and at least getting the dress dirty.

When I received my already hemmed dress, I realized that it was still missing something, so I bought burgundy beads and added them to the waistband of the dress. So it became brighter and more interesting. You can evaluate the result of my choice from the photographs.

Of course, the dress is not the whole look, so next time I’ll talk about choosing an outfit for the most important accessory of any bride - the groom (kidding, kidding).

We are looking for a photographer, cameraman, presenter

There are points on which it is better not to skimp when preparing for the celebration. Of course, you can hold a wedding without a host and photographer, by asking friends and relatives for help. For example, your mutual funny friend can take the place of the presenter, and the photos will be taken by the bride’s sister, who recently bought a brand new DSLR. But the result of such work can be unpredictable. To avoid any unpleasant surprises, it is better to assemble a team of professionals.

Important! If your celebration is scheduled for the high wedding season (late spring and summer), look for a photographer and host no later than 3-4 months in advance. Good specialists have all dates booked long before the start of the wedding boom.

Feel free to choose. It is not necessary to hire him for your wedding after the first meeting with a photographer. Talk to other specialists, look at their portfolio, look for reviews on the Internet. Discuss the cost of services. If you can’t find a common language, look for other people with whom you will feel easy and comfortable.

Other organizational issues

Services of presenter, toastmaster, DJ. To decide on artists for your wedding, you can ask friends who got married relatively recently to share their coordinates.

Transport. The bride and groom can rent a limousine or an elegant Mercedes. Transportation for guests will be required.
