Wedding calendar for 2022: choosing a favorable date

Trinity is a big holiday, one of the main celebrations in Orthodoxy, celebrated 7 weeks after Easter. In 2022, it falls on June 20. The great event is always celebrated on Sunday, which means it is a day off, and all parishioners have the opportunity to go to church. Trinity is celebrated in the summer, and it coincides with the season of weddings, weddings, and baptisms of children. However, can all these sacraments be performed on June 20 in 2022?

Trinity is a celebration established in honor of a great event - the descent of the Apostles, disciples of Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Then they received the gift of the ability to prophesy, speak all the languages of the world and heal people from illnesses. Also then the trinity of God was revealed in the Person of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. On such a significant day in Orthodoxy, people go to churches, festively decorated with greenery, for a special service and prayers.

Favorable wedding dates

When choosing a day for a wedding, you must first ask the priest for advice. So church ministers determined that lovers can get married in 2022 on the following dates:

  1. April 26 is Red Hill Day. This is the seventh day after Easter, falling on Sunday. It is believed that a wedding performed on this day will bring happiness to the newlyweds.
  2. May 22 is a day dedicated to Saint Nicholas, who is capable of performing a miracle for those who truly need it.
  3. July 21 and November 4 are days of veneration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The miraculous icon stands guard over sincere love, so a marriage made in heaven on these dates will be long and happy.
  4. October 26 is the memorial day of the Iveron Mother of God icon. She blesses people for a faithful and fruitful marriage.

Unfortunately, in 2022, July 21 will fall out of the list of auspicious days, since it will be Tuesday, and weddings are not celebrated on Tuesdays.

Fortune telling for Trinity

If we talk about fortune telling, then these are pagan rituals. Therefore, calling your betrothed or casting a love spell is prohibited. But it is allowed to pray and dream about the future, so that the spirits hear the desires of people.

On Trinity, you can take care of maintaining your health and well-being if you distribute change to the poor near the temple on Spiritual Day. On Monday after the celebration, you should pray in church and listen to the service, then go out and give alms. Changes given out of your pocket and empty pockets will protect you from troubles and health problems.

Fortune telling is also associated with fate, when young girls went to the river to plant wreaths of wild flowers. According to legend, during the Rusal Week after Trinity, mermaids entering from the water could help see the future:

  • The wreath drowned - trials will come soon.
  • Swim - soon a suitor will appear who will become a husband.
  • If you haven’t sailed from the shore, your dreams of a groom won’t come true, you need to wait.
  • The wreath floats against the tide - the girl expects rapid dramatic changes in her life.

When lowering the wreaths into the water, the words are said: “Girls walk across the field, carry bouquets, weave wreaths and wander into the water. Betrothed, mummer, catch the wreath and bring it to me.” At the end it says Amen.

Celebrations on Whitsunday

Birch branches placed under the pillow at night were used to tell fortunes about the betrothed. The girl could see him in a dream.

After the ceremony with wreaths, the girl must go home in silence so as not to frighten away the signs of fate. Among the folk signs and fortune-telling for the Trinity, they also note:

  • If it rains on Trinity Sunday and a person falls under it, good health, favorable events and prosperity await him.
  • Doing kindness to a companion who comes into the house promises the return of warmth to the owners.
  • On Spiritual Day, the search for treasure can be crowned with success, since, according to legend, the earth rests and can bestow people with precious secrets.

In rural areas you can learn about other fortune telling of believers.

Important! In the 21st century, not many people are looking for treasures, so on Spiritual Day you can try to test your luck with lottery tickets.

The meaning of the sacrament

For true believers, a wedding is the most important family holiday, thanks to which lovers got married not only on earth, but also in heaven. Priests recommend holding the ceremony a year after a regular wedding to give the newlyweds time to check their feelings again.

Before choosing a day, it is better to visit the chosen church and talk with the clergyman. He will tell you which dates you should pay attention to.

Allowed days

If you count, then in 2022 there will be only 124 good days to perform the ritual. The days of the week are Friday, Monday and Wednesday.

If you look at the calendar, you can see that:

  1. In January, the ceremony is possible on all Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after the 19th. They also celebrate the 19th and 26th days of the month.
  2. In February, only the last week, the 14th and 23rd, falls.
  3. There are no good days at all in March.
  4. April gives only three days: the 26th, 27th and 29th.
  5. May is rich in dates. Every Monday, Friday, and Wednesday you can get married, except for the 27th day.
  6. June allows the ceremony to be held until the 14th.
  7. In July, church weddings are allowed from 12 noon.
  8. In August the days fall from the 13th to the 27th.
  9. September allows all days except the 11th, 20th and 27th.
  10. October – all dates.
  11. November - except for the 29th and 30th.
  12. You can't get married in December.

Some couples rely on the lunar calendar. This is incorrect because the church does not recognize this data, although some dates match.

When ceremony is prohibited

Most days of the year are not designated for the sacrament. So, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday fall every week. There are also church holidays and fasts on which the ceremony is not carried out:

  • Christmastide continues from January 7 to January 17;
  • from February 24 to the end of the month, including March 1, as Maslenitsa is celebrated;
  • from April 19 to April 25 during the week of Bright Week;
  • a few days before Lent;
  • before Palm Sunday and Christmas Eve;
  • The 11th and 27th of the ninth month are days of one-day fasting;
  • in the days preceding holidays in a particular temple. You need to find out about such days in advance from the priest;
  • on the main church holidays: Trinity Day, Christmas, Presentation of the Lord, Epiphany;
  • 11 – 07.01 in Nativity Fast, August 14-28 in Assumption Fast and 15.06 – 12.07 in Petrov Fast.

There are exceptions to any rule. If lovers have a good reason to get married on one of the forbidden days, then the church minister can make concessions.

Briefly about the holiday

Christianity recognized it as sacred. According to scripture, the day is recognized as the time when the holy spirit is sent from heaven. The onset time is counted from Easter, after 50 days.

On day 50, the apostles could speak in any language. On Trinity Day, the followers of Christ, the holy apostles, received the Holy Spirit. This symbolized the trinity of God. Hence the traditional name for this time.

The believing people celebrate the Birthday of the Church. Therefore, special services are held in church institutions. It is customary to remember ancestors and visit sacred places.

Rules for preparing for the ritual

A wedding is the highest level of marriage, when lovers want to seal their love not only before people, but also before God.

How does a wedding take place and what nuances are important to remember?

Therefore, you should carefully prepare for the ceremony:

  1. As practice shows, priests agree to marry only those couples who have previously entered into a marriage at the registry office. This is how lovers prove that their decision is thoughtful and balanced.
  2. Newlyweds are recommended to familiarize themselves with Orthodox works that reveal details of the lifestyle of a Christian family.
  3. A man and woman should come to the ceremony with a light heart, full of love and respect for their spouse. It is advisable to resolve all disputes and disagreements in a couple.
  4. It is necessary that the husband and wife be baptized people. But only one spouse is allowed to be baptized.
  5. On the day before the wedding, you should meet with the priest for confession and communion.

For the ceremony itself you will need wedding rings, a towel, candles and white scarves for them, wine and icons of the Mother of God and Jesus Christ. The list may vary depending on the temple chosen for the wedding.

Responsibilities of witnesses

The tradition of inviting witnesses to a wedding has deep roots. At a time when marriages were registered only in the parish register, the priest needed proof of the seriousness of the lovers’ intentions. The parishioners of the temple, who knew the young people well, confirmed the sincerity of the feelings of the guy and girl. Only then did the clergyman agree to marry the couple.

Currently, it is possible to conduct the ceremony without witnesses if no suitable candidates are found. You cannot take as witnesses the parents of one of the lovers, a divorced boyfriend/girlfriend, or people living in a civil marriage. But you can take as witnesses a married couple who are happy in a legal relationship. It is also necessary to choose a baptized person who understands the importance of the ritual.

Witnesses have few responsibilities. They need to present the wedding rings at the right moment and hold the crowns over the heads of the couple for almost the entire ceremony. This is a difficult task because the crowns are heavy and the wedding takes a long time.

Dress code for newlyweds

Church is one of the few places where you must strictly follow the generally accepted rules of the church dress code. The newlyweds' clothes should symbolize the purity of their thoughts and souls.

Engagement - a beautiful tradition or a necessity?

When choosing an outfit for the groom, it is better to opt for strict business suits in calm shades. Sets of clothes in blue, black, gray, or coffee tones would be appropriate. Bright and flashy costumes with patterns, embroidery, and inscriptions should be left for other occasions, since the church calls on people to show restraint and modesty, and weddings are not social events.

You also cannot replace trousers with jeans, a shirt with a T-shirt, and shoes with sneakers. As for accessories, you can leave a discreet watch.

There are several wishes for the bride's appearance:

  1. Girls are recommended to choose dresses in light colors, since white is not necessary. It is advisable to give preference to floor-length models, with ¾ sleeves and covered shoulders. For example, wedding dresses with lace tops look great in church. But as practice shows, girls choose corset models, and at the ceremony they cover their shoulders with a veil.
  2. It should be remembered that women should not be in church with their heads uncovered, so the bride should choose a veil that hides her hair as much as possible, or a beautiful scarf. Guests present may wear hats.
  3. It is also worth taking care of comfortable shoes, as you will have to stand for a long time.
  4. It is necessary to remove any jewelry from your hands.
  5. Give preference to daytime makeup, since war paint looks out of place within the walls of a church. It’s better to leave your lips completely untouched, since you have to kiss icons.

Dress code rules are mandatory for all wedding guests. But they are simple and should not cause difficulties for lovers.

What not to do on your wedding day

The priest will give instructions on what to do during the wedding and after - regarding the spiritual life of the young family. But then everyday life begins, and many people follow the signs - they say that wedding candles should be stored, and wedding rings should be worn constantly. Although some ancient beliefs claim that candles can be used for love spells (this is mentioned in folklore collections and books on black magic), the church does not approve of such things. The same goes for the use of these items during difficult childbirth. From a religious point of view, even such everyday magic will prevent one from entering the Kingdom of God.

You cannot re-gift icons that were given to a couple at their wedding. They become a family heirloom that is passed on to children and grandchildren. They can be used again when the adult child of this couple gets married.

As for the signs and features of congratulations, everyone decides for themselves how to relate to folk traditions. But we must remember that many of them have pagan roots, so it is better to celebrate the event in accordance with church rules.

Who can't get married?

It happens that lovers have chosen a suitable date, having checked the Orthodox calendar, fulfilled all the conditions, but the clergyman still refuses the wedding. This happens if certain circumstances become clear:

  1. Young people did not tie the knot at the state level.
  2. The lovers are atheists, and the wedding is perceived only as a beautiful ceremony.
  3. If one of the newlyweds does not profess Orthodoxy, but belongs to another faith. Sectarians are also not allowed to participate in the ceremony.
  4. Civil cohabitation is a significant reason for refusal.
  5. If it turns out that one of the lovers has already been married three times.
  6. Age limit. Young people who have not reached the age of majority cannot get married. The ban also applies to men over 70 years of age and women over 60 years of age.
  7. Relatives by blood and spiritual friends (for example, godparents of one child) will be categorically denied the ritual.
  8. People who have taken a vow of celibacy and priests cannot undergo a wedding.

A wedding is not a beautiful and fashionable event, but a serious ceremony that unites the destinies of people. Therefore, it is necessary to approach the ceremony responsibly and choose the right date using a special calendar.

Is it possible to make wishes for Trinity and what kind?

It is better to make a wish when collecting grass and lighting it in the church. When it is brought into the house for the iconostasis, the owners ask for well-being and health.

By preparing food for the holiday, women could achieve the fulfillment of their desires:

  • Round dishes symbolized victory over troubles.
  • Full bowls spoke of prosperity in the house.
  • The words of the conspiracy over scrambled eggs in front of the husband, desired by the burnt woman, helped to improve family life.

Young girls make a wish for the night by placing birch branches under their pillow.

Important! Knitting brooms from birch on Trinity Day is prohibited because it is an insult to the national holiday.

There are many good luck spells that are read in the morning at dawn. A man goes out into the street and recites a few lines.

Most often, making a wish is associated with storing a birch branch
