The length of the Zhivopisny Bridge is 1460 m. Its width is 37 m. The main span of the crossing extends to 409.5 m. The structure includes 72 cables. The arched span is 182 m, its height is 90 m.
The highway consists of 8 lanes: 4 in one direction and the same in the other.
- The width of the lanes is 3.75 m, the dividing line is more than 2 m. A safety strip (1 m) is also provided.
- The width of pedestrian sidewalks is 1.5 m.

the bridge is equipped with screens that absorb noise, as well as staircases. The distance from the water level to the highway is 30 m.
The supporting structures of Zhivopisny are bright coral in color. Manufactured in France, the shrouds are made from ropes coated with polyethylene pipes.

Tunnel
Zhivopisny Bridge is a continuation of Zvenigorodsky Prospekt, which includes another exceptional object - the three-kilometer Serebryanoborsky tunnel. It consists of two levels: one is intended for the movement of cars, and the other is for metro trains. The tunnel is equipped with the latest technology. There are video surveillance equipment and modern fire extinguishing systems.
History of construction and opening
A competition to create a design project was announced at the beginning of the 21st century. According to the preliminary plan, the bridge was to be built over the Moscow River and connect through the construction the Serebryany Bor eco-park and the Krylatsky Hills protected natural area.
In order to avoid harm to natural objects and for the free passage of ships, it was decided to build the bridge along the water artery. Construction took place from 2004 to 2007. The opening of a restaurant in a capsule located at the top of the arch was scheduled for 2009.
The architect of the cable-stayed bridge was N. Shumakov, who designed the Moscow metro, Vnukovo airport and the city monorail.

Bridge design

The pylon of the Zhivopisny Bridge is made in the form of an arch. The support is connected to the main line by cables. At the highest point of the support, at an altitude of more than 100 m, there is an elliptical capsule - the center of the observation deck in the form of an alien saucer. To get to the observation deck, you can use lifts. If an emergency occurs, you can go down using lifting systems or use the bridge that leads to Serebryany Bor.
The dimensions of the capsule are 33x24x13 m. The weight of the structure is about 1000 tons. The walls of the ball always remain warm thanks to the operation of the electric heating system.
A layer of ice does not form on the outer walls of the structure, which makes the “plate” heavier. Also, snow does not linger on the roof and does not pose a danger to motorists and pedestrians.
The presence of the capsule reduces vibration of the bridge and makes it more stable.
Important! Aerodynamic testing of a model of an arched-cable-stayed crossing was carried out at TsAGI Zhukovsky.
Currently, work continues inside the plate, so the facility is closed to residents and guests of the city.

- One winter, an ellipsoid weighing about a thousand tons almost collapsed onto the roadway of the bridge, as it began to be covered with snow and frozen over with ice.

Using a bridge
In addition to the bridge being used by motorists and pedestrians as a link between different areas of the city, the premises of the suspended sphere were to house a restaurant and a registry office. By the beginning of 2022, the establishments will not operate.
Restaurant
They planned to make a restaurant in the space of the suspended capsule, but this project could not be brought to life due to difficulties with the design of the sewerage system. Busy traffic and gusts of wind cause vibration of the ellipsoid, which could result in depressurization of the system. Due to financial difficulties, the process of laying communications and installing fastening equipment was frozen.
MARRIAGE REGISTRY
In 2011, the authorities put forward the idea of creating a registry office on the territory of the red cable-stayed bridge in Moscow. The plan included the construction of two halls: on the right bank of the crossing in the premises of the utility building and in the space of the observation deck.
The opening of the registry office was supposed to take place in 2014. The interiors of the palace were ready, but later they were partially lost. There were also problems with heating the site premises. The heating system could negatively affect the stability of the capsule.
Construction work continued until 2016, but problems arose again, this time with the installation of elevators.
In 2022, the French company continued work on the project of lifting equipment with curved shafts. The new date for the opening of the wedding palace was set for 2022, but to date, specialists have not yet been able to eliminate all the technical difficulties.
How to register a marriage: features of the procedure
Official registration of marriage is possible only at the registry office. But the official wedding, which is carried out by the registry office, seems too boring and formulaic. Today it is possible to hold outdoor ceremonies, which will take place outdoors or in the hall where the newlyweds decided to hold the holiday. Outdoor ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular. Although, before planning it, it is worth checking with the registry office whether they provide such a service.
In some cases, it is possible to register a marriage at home, but this is only possible with an official medical prescription. The testimony of doctors must be officially confirmed at the hospital. It is usually issued if a person is unable to move or has another medical condition that prevents free movement.
If you have sorted out the place of registration, you need to come on the appointed date and time. You must take your passport (identity document) with you. If the application was submitted online, you should also bring the originals of the documents required for registration.
After all the documents have been submitted, the registry office staff will issue the couple with a marriage certificate. The ceremony is not mandatory, but is performed at the request of the couple. Employees can simply hand over the certificate, without unnecessary celebrations and other official moments - ideal if the couple does not want unnecessary fuss around their persons.
How to get to the Zhivopisny Bridge on Marshal Zhukov Avenue
The facility can be easily reached by private car, public transport or on foot from the nearest metro stations.
Arch with capsule
By car
In order to get to the cable-stayed crossing from the city center, you need to move towards the Zvenigorod highway.
There are several ways:
- Exit to Novy Arbat, drive straight along the street, then drive across the Novoarbatsky Bridge and turn onto Kutuzovsky Prospekt. At the junction near the Kutuzovskaya station, you need to turn right and drive 7 km. Once on Zvenigorodskoye Highway, turn left. A left turn must be made through a right turn with a U-turn. After 8 km there is the Zhivopisny Bridge.
- When driving through the Moscow Ring Road, you need to exit onto Leningradskoye Shosse and drive 9 km to the intersection with Alabyan Street. Then, drive 4 km, turn onto the street. People's Militia and turn right onto Zhukov Avenue. There will be 1.5 km left to the bridge.
Note! You cannot stop or park on the bridge, so you will have to leave your car somewhere near the structure.
By public transport
The Zhivopisny Bridge is conveniently accessible by public transport.
The unique structure is located near several metro stations:
- From the Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station you can get to the attraction by bus or trolleybus. After leaving the station lobby, you need to walk along Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street to the bus stop. The distance of this section of the route is 240 m. Then you can travel by regular bus No. 253 or minibus No. 253K. You need to get off at Marshal Zhukov Avenue and walk a little.
- From the Khoroshevo station you can get there by buses No. 390, No. T86 or trolleybuses No. 20, 21.65 or commercial No. 20K. A public transport stop is located 100 m from the metro. Transport goes straight to the bridge. The remaining 80 m can be walked.
- You can also get from the Krylatskoye metro station to Zhivopisny by bus No. 829, but the distance from the stop to the destination is 2 km. By bus No. 850 you can get to the General Glagolieva stop, then change to bus No. T86 or trolleybuses No. 20, 20K, No. 21, 65 and get off at the Serebryany Bor stop.
Note! Route 850 passes directly over the bridge, so passengers can view the inside of the structure along the way.
Walking distance from Krylatskoye metro station
The Moscow metro station “Krylatskoye” is the closest to the Zhivopisny Bridge. From here you can reach the attraction on foot.
After exiting the metro, turn right and walk along Osenny Boulevard through Krylatsky Park. Next, there is Krylatskaya Street. It is located parallel to Marshal Zhukov Avenue. You need to turn right and walk along Zhukov Avenue to the bridge.

The Zhivopisny Bridge has taken its place among other colorful sights of Moscow. It united the two banks of the capital and relieved the busy city highways. Existing ideas for organizing a restaurant and a registry office on the territory of the hanging ball were not crowned with success. It is also not yet possible to get to the observation deck of the object, but work in this direction is underway. You can admire the remarkable structure at any time of the day. At night, the highway is illuminated by lanterns, and in sunny weather, the bright arch of the bridge casts pink reflections on the waters of the Moscow River.
