Bouquet of tulips - create a nice gift with your own hands

Who doesn't like flowers? There are no such people, you must admit, because without them it is simply impossible to imagine any holiday, anniversary, or official event. What to say about Women's Day or a gift for your beloved. Yes, not everyone likes pompous roses, but tulips always evoke only positive emotions. There is a huge variety of them, and you can create the perfect gift with your own hands. Don't know how? So read on to learn how to make a simple bouquet of tulips, and how to preserve it without having the experience of a florist.

Selection of tulips

In fact, the choice of tulips is the basis of a beautiful bouquet, so you should pay attention to the selection of varieties and colors of plants. The most successful varieties for making a bouquet are considered to be Dutch. And this is not just so, because in appearance they look very original, and also, which is important for a bouquet, tulips have a dense stem that can be fixed without breaking. And the lifespan of Dutch flowers is longer than that of domestic ones.

When looking for tulips for a flower arrangement, it is better to give preference to the following varieties:

  • "beauty trend";
  • "albatross";
  • "Canberra";
  • "kasia";
  • "veranda".

If it is not possible to find similar varieties, then when choosing tulips you should be guided by the following criteria:

  1. It is better to buy those flowers that are still closed, that is, the buds have not yet had time to bloom. But you should not buy flowers whose buds are held together with an elastic band. This indicates that the plant has outgrown and, as soon as the rubber band is removed, the petals will scatter, and the bouquet of them will not last long.
  2. You should also pay attention to the stems. They should be dense and erect. If they are lethargic and drooping, then making a composition from such flowers will be problematic.
  3. The leaves also require attention. They must be the same color without inclusions, stains or damage.

There are also certain features that are specific to tulips, which should not discourage you when choosing flowers for a bouquet:

  • a greenish bud at the base indicates that the flower is fresh;
  • unopened buds have no aroma;
  • small bud height, no more than five centimeters (over time they will grow and become eight centimeters).

If the flower is located above the leaves, this indicates that the plant is overgrown. There is no need to buy such a flower, since the lifespan of the bouquet will be short.

After purchasing tulips, you should properly prepare them for creating a bouquet, because this determines how long they will last. © https://ydoo.info/qa/kak-sostavit-buket-iz-tyulpanov.htmlFirst, it’s worth making new cuts. This procedure is done using pruning shears or a sharp knife. You need to cut no more than two centimeters. The cut should not be made very large, especially when the lower part of the stem is white. After all, these are the remains of the onion, in which nutrients are still preserved. To prevent the lower leaves from absorbing moisture, they should be removed. In addition, they will be under water and, most likely, will begin to rot, thereby losing their decorative appearance.

Many are convinced that the cut must be made at an angle. This is explained by the fact that the flat edge is completely pressed against the bottom of the container, and the flower does not receive sufficient moisture. But this rule does not apply to all flowers. Bulbous plants are cut straight, but not at an angle. The fact is that such flowers have very delicate and fragile stems that are difficult to cut at an angle, and an even cut increases their stability and they will not bend. However, in the selection of tulips there are also varieties whose stems are hard and can be cut at an angle.

The color scheme is selected individually, but there are standards that should be taken into account. For example, it is appropriate for mothers to give pink tulips, as they symbolize a trusting relationship with a loved one. But it is better for your wife or girlfriend to buy red flowers. It would be appropriate to present tulips in purple and orange shades to your colleagues. And for friends they choose white flowers, which symbolize strong friendship.

A few words about shades

This small section is very important. After all, a lot depends on the color of the tulips in the bouquet. Beginners often make a mistake when composing - they buy different shades that they like. Yes, such tulips can be luxurious when they are alone. The bouquet creates a tacky variety, and the result may turn out to be tasteless.

Advice! Before you start making bouquets, study the information on shades and their combinations. For example, a lavender-white bouquet looks gentle, while an orange-green bouquet is catchy and bold. Examples of ideal combinations are shown below.

Selection of packaging material

To make the bouquet look beautiful, you need to take care of the packaging material. In fact, this is no less important than the choice of tulips. If you choose the right decorative material, a composition of five or even three tulips will look original. Bouquets that contain not only tulips, but also other flowers look very interesting.

Tulips have “companions” that very advantageously emphasize the beauty of the bouquet. Typically this is:

  • peonies;
  • roses;
  • daffodils;
  • irises;
  • eustoma.

At the same time, the combination of tulips and lilies of the valley is unacceptable, since the latter negatively affect the duration of flowering of the former.

As for packaging material, there are several options, and each has its own advantages:

  1. Craft paper is a trend that has become one of the most popular in bouquet decoration over the past few years. However, this is not surprising, because such a bouquet looks very advantageous, without unnecessary pomp, modest and tasteful. You can buy paper at a flower or stationery store. It is important to understand that the material can have a pattern, and here it is worth considering for what occasion the bouquet is being assembled.

  2. Organza, as a rule, is used in cases where a bouquet is given for a wedding, anniversary, that is, a big celebration. Some people believe that such material is not the best decoration for tulips, but this is a misconception; the main thing here is to choose the right colors.

  3. Burlap is an analogue of kraft paper, and the effect of packaging is the same: simple and tasteful.

But foil, crepe paper, cellophane and tape should be avoided. Flowers packed in such paper have long gone out of fashion and can become not a decoration, but a disappointment.

A little about the benefits of the flower

Tulips amaze with their variety of species, thanks to which, by combining them with each other, you can achieve an interesting play of textures and shades. Today, the greatest interest of florists, in addition to peony-shaped ones, is caused by terry, parrot-shaped, fringed, lily-shaped and green-colored varieties. The so-called Darwin hybrids with classic goblet buds are no less in demand. To make them look impressive, multi-layer packaging or unusual handmade frames are used in the design.

Why should bouquets for March 8 be made from tulips, giving them preference over other flowers?

  1. You can use different decorative solutions; the florist’s imagination is not limited.
  2. Flowers have a smoothly curved growth line, which allows you to make picturesque compositions of a “spreading” shape, not only for gifts, but also for tabletops. There is a stereotype that tulips should “stand” straight in arrangements, pressed tightly against each other. But today, an alternative concept that allows flowers to be arranged naturally, especially in botanical or vegetative style mixes, is also gaining momentum.
  3. Spring is tulip season, so they are of high quality at an affordable price.
  4. The flower does not have specific symbolism, such as roses or orchids. With its help you can talk not only about love, but also about friendship.
  5. Most varieties are hypoallergenic and have a subtle, pleasant aroma.
  6. Unlike other bulbs, tulips easily “get along” with any neighbors in the bouquet.
  7. With proper care, an arrangement can last in a vase for up to 7 days, especially if we are talking about a Dutch cut.

Step-by-step instructions for collecting a bouquet

It is difficult for a beginner to figure out how to assemble a bouquet, but after reading the step-by-step instructions, everyone will be able to correctly compose the composition.

Let's consider the most common option - parallel:

  1. First, it’s worth inspecting the tulips. Dirty, broken or damaged ones cannot be inserted into a bouquet, as such a composition looks ugly.
  2. After inspection, it is worth removing the leaves. There should be two or three on each stem, no more. Why should they be removed? Everything is very simple: they interfere with the assembly of the bouquet, add extra volume and cover the buds.
  3. Next, you need to try to place the tulips parallel to each other (bud to bud) - this will form the first layer. Next, a second layer is laid on top, a third, a fourth, and so on until the flowers run out. The layers can be laid out the same width, or you can make them narrower and narrower in each subsequent one, thus forming a ladder. If additional flowers are used, they are laid out in the same order (parallel).
  4. After the flowers are folded, they need to be tied at the bottom with twine so that they do not fall apart. There is no need to tighten it too much, as you can injure the stems.
  5. Now the formed bouquet is transferred to the packaging material and wrapped. There are a lot of options and various techniques for wrapping a bouquet. To make your choice, we recommend watching the video below. The proposed techniques can be used for any flower arrangement, not just tulips.
  6. Flowers wrapped in packaging material should be leveled and straightened.

Another popular option for arranging a bouquet is the spiral technique. You should always arrange flowers in such a bouquet only counterclockwise. Here, a roller is required to create volume, and some use improvised material, for example, ordinary oilcloth. It is difficult to describe in words how to correctly form a composition in a spiral way, so it is better to watch a video that clearly shows how to correctly arrange a bouquet.

Five budget options

Boys want to congratulate their mother and grandmother, and maybe a pretty girl of the same age, on Women’s Day. However, the savings from the piggy bank are unlikely to be enough for a grandiose bouquet of flowers by March 8th. Tulips will come to the rescue - you can buy inexpensive varieties in the hypermarket. Large stores often have sales for the spring holidays. A gift from children is exactly the case when attention is important, not cost. You can arrange flowers using any technique, neglecting the traditional “spiral”. Even a simple armful wrapped in craft will look cute and touching.

"Professional"

If the cut ends of the tulip stems are wrapped in a damp cloth, the flowers will remain fresh for a long time. This technique is used by professional florists when creating budget bouquets.

  1. First, prepare a piece of cling film sufficient to cover the lower part of the stems well. We straighten it out on the table.
  2. Place a damp textile napkin on top.
  3. We cut the stems straight and remove the lower leaves.
  4. Place the flowers on a napkin, placing them at the top.

  1. We lower each subsequent row slightly lower than the previous one so that all the buds are visible.

  1. Photo of a bouquet of flowers collected using parallel technique. Affordable and budget option for March 8th.

  1. We wrap the ends of the stems in a well-moistened cloth, and wrap the top with cling film.
  2. For packaging we use two types of craft paper; you can also use more expensive designer paper, one side of which has a glossy coating. The sheets should be contrasting in tone and similar in color (for example, only warm or only cold). They are also selected to match the color of the buds. In this case, raspberry petals go perfectly with beige and chocolate-colored designer paper. We stack the sheets on top of each other with a shift. The glossy side, if there is one, is at the bottom.
  3. We lay another layer of cellophane to protect the paper from water.
  4. We place the bouquet “on the corner”. We wrap the left side, bend the bottom part, making a half-envelope. It will hide the stem moisturizer from prying eyes and prevent it from falling out. Then we fold the paper to the right and return the remaining free part to the left. The edges of the packaging will thus be aesthetically folded.

All that remains is to tie the floral surprise with decorative twine and you can give it as a gift.

Simplest

The Blue Diamond peony variety is so beautiful that it requires minimal decoration. A neat bunch of flowers is placed on two sheets of craft (one of them can be crumpled first - this is a fashionable technique) and folded into a regular paper cone.

The arrangement is tied with double satin braid to match the color of the petals.

Exquisite

Antarctica variety with large white buds of a classic shape, best collected using the spiral technique. For packaging, you can use craft and designer paper with corrugation.

With WOW effect

The colorful bouquet is striking in its size and looks bright in spring. It is equally appropriate to give it to a young girl, mother and even the boss if she is young and does not welcome unnecessary pathos. The spiral assembly with a low fixation point gives the already rather large composition additional volume.

How to properly store a bouquet?

Of course, when a lot of effort has been spent on creating a beautiful and original bouquet, you want to preserve it for as long as possible. How to do it right? What does everyone need to know in order for a composition to please for a long time not only with its appearance, but also with its smell? First, you should properly prepare the tulips for assembling the bouquet. You should also adhere to the following recommendations:

  1. The water in which the composition will stand should be cool. It’s better if it’s also settled. It is not worth filling the entire container with liquid, since the plant receives its main nutrients through the tips of the stems.
  2. The liquid should be changed daily, since a sufficient number of bacteria are formed in it per day, which do not have a very good effect on the flowers, or rather, on their lifespan. When changing the liquid, it will not be superfluous to rinse the vase.
  3. It is necessary to cut the edges of the stem every day to extend the life of the flowers.
  4. The vase with the bouquet should be in a shaded place. Direct sunlight is harmful not only to tulips, but also to other flowers.

Florists note that bouquets of tulips last longer if you place a sprig of cypress or thuja nearby. You can also put an aspirin tablet in the water, which extends the life of cut plants. In addition to aspirin, you can use other means: soda, salt, vinegar, activated carbon, and tulips especially like sugar (70 grams per 1 liter of water).

By the way, contrary to all the rumors, there is no need to remove the packaging from the flowers; on the contrary, the plants are better preserved with it, since a certain microclimate is formed there. But you should keep the vase away from fruits, as they emit ethylene gas, which is harmful to tulips.

If all the rules have been followed, then you can enjoy the beauty of the composition for up to five days. Yes, unfortunately, tulips are not among the long-livers. But if you do not follow the recommendations for choosing, preparing and caring for cut flowers, then tulips can live no more than two days.

Anyone can create that perfect bouquet, because there are no special difficulties in this. By forming a bouquet with your own hands, a person puts his soul into it, and such a gift is very significant for every person.

Design of a single composition

A correctly selected vase with one flower will look elegant regardless of the interior.

Preparing the container

The best option would be a narrow vase that is taller than the flower itself; its diameter should be selected so that the plant fits comfortably in it, but does not dangle. Even tea cups or small jars are suitable for unusual compositions.

The selected vessel must be washed with hot water and detergent, and then rinsed with running water. When the container is dry, fill it with clean water so that 3/4 of the stem can be hidden in it.

Tulip installation

The length of the flower depends on the height of the selected vessel; if necessary, the stem can be trimmed again using the method given above. When using a low and wide container, you need to choose its depth, which should be at least half the height of the stem.

After placing the flower in the vase, it should be adjusted so that it takes the required position.

Interior arrangement

An exquisite bouquet in a free style will decorate the festive table, giving those around you a spring mood. English principles of arrangement are used here based on seasonal plants, giving a richness of shades and textures. Instead of floral foam, the flowers are mounted on a kenzan, a metal holder with needles that is ideal for hollow stems.

You will need:

  • Green Wave Parrot variety;
  • poinsettia;
  • hellebore;
  • bush peony roses;
  • eucalyptus "Baby Blue" and populus;
  • viburnum.

We place the kenzan in a transparent vase on a high leg. We secure it with floral plasticine so that it does not move to the sides.

We form the silhouette of the bouquet using greenery. We use asymmetry - this is one of the most fashionable techniques in recent years. Add viburnum berries, which create volume.

Once the main lines of the arrangement have been outlined, we begin to arrange the focal flowers. The large lush buds of Green Wave Parrot are ideal for this role.

Let's support the directions set by greenery, branches of white bush roses.

We fill the voids between the focal plants with hellebore.

And at the end we add a creative touch - pounsettia. It is considered a symbol of winter, but thanks to its muted color, it was able to harmoniously fit into the composition of spring plants. A ready-made bouquet of tulips for the home is shown below in the photo:

If your arms grow from your shoulders

A variation of the bouquet box is a small wooden box in eco-style or a wicker basket. By the way, if you wish, you can make the box yourself. It’s easy to find materials, boards, for example, or plywood. And a hammer, if you don't already have one.

You should not make the box too large; it is better to make it deep so that the tulips, like in the box, fit over most of the length of the stem. Also place a moistened floral sponge inside. The outside of the box can be decorated, or you can leave the natural grain of the wood untouched. Later, when the bouquet fades, such packaging will remain a nice decorative element in the interior.

It’s important to say what you wanted, not what happened

Fashion is fashion, but there are well-known meanings of one color or another. Red means love, white means innocence, yellow and orange are credited with the ability to attract material wealth, fame and success. Lilac symbolizes fidelity, purple – wisdom and respect.

However, you should not attach too much importance to the color of the bouquet, especially if the one to whom you are giving it does not understand much about it. Unless you should be more careful with the yellow color. Otherwise, instead of joy you will get tears - many still remember the song about “yellow tulips - the messengers of separation.”

So choose a bouquet, guided by simple rules:

Flower color is a key factor, despite the tautology

Why I personally love tulips is their incredible variety of colors. Breeders did their best and produced monochromatic flowers of all shades: from white to almost black. There are varieties that combine several contrasting colors, there are double varieties and flowers with an unusual fleecy edge. This, as they say, is a matter of taste. But we plan to create and give a fashionable bouquet, therefore, when choosing a color, we adhere to the following rules:

The latter is my favorite option; such a bouquet will certainly charge both the giver and the one who receives the “present” splashing with colors with positivity for the whole day.

What will help make a bouquet of tulips the most fashionable and stylish?

If you ask the fair half of humanity what flowers they associate with spring, sun and joy, the majority will name tulips. These delicate, graceful flowers have an inexplicable appeal. Almost everyone loves them. By the way, tulips have been known for many centuries, and in different countries romantic legends have been formed about these flowers. Interestingly, all these beliefs attribute to the tulip the ability to bring happiness and luck. I think this is a great reason to present a bouquet of lucky flowers to the person you love!

And we all know how women try to follow fashion, and therefore the bouquet must correspond to all the latest trends. Then it will not only cause delight and gratitude, but will also become an object of pride on the pages of all kinds of social networks. Yes! Florists also have their own fashion trends.

It's not the hat, it's the box

The main trend is packaging the bouquet in a box “a la hat box”. Most often, it is round and should correspond in size to the selected flowers: only buds can look out of the box, the stems are hidden inside.

If you choose this type of packaging, make sure that the color of the box matches (even if in contrast) with the bouquet itself. The brighter the shade of tulips you choose, the calmer the packaging should be.

You need to put a floral sponge pre-soaked in water in the box and stick the stems directly into it. A bouquet in a box has several obvious advantages:

How to pack flowers beautifully and effectively (11 step-by-step master classes)

Every significant holiday is usually accompanied by the gift of flower bouquets, and on this page we have collected for you 11 master classes on how to pack flowers. After studying this review, you will learn how to independently pack bouquets of flowers for loved ones around you. By the way, in the previous review we showed how to make roses with your own hands (15 different master classes), and even earlier we made various flowers from all kinds of materials (more than 20 ideas).

Newspaper in a new way

Another trend is craft paper wrapping. Remember when you were a child and used to make candy bags out of this? Here! And now this is a squeak that any fashionista will appreciate.

The paper can be the natural color of wood, sometimes funny ornaments or drawings, inscriptions are printed on it, and sometimes they imitate newspaper strips.

You need to wrap the bouquet in accordance with its shape. Pack long tulips in the same bag. For a shorter and more fluffy bouquet, form a “skirt” from a couple of sheets of paper.

It’s fun to add tree branches, ears of corn, and a lot of greenery to the bouquet. However, the juicy leaves of tulips themselves cope well with the latest trend. The main thing is not to overdo it. Pomposity nowadays is a sign of bad taste.
