How to make a paper scroll. a real rarity: how to make a “scroll” wedding invitation yourself, how to make an antique paper roll

What kind of wedding is a scroll invitation suitable for?

It is worth saying that scroll invitations are not suitable for every wedding, because they carry their own special meaning.
You should not create such wedding attributes if you are planning a purely thematic celebration, for example, a Hawaiian holiday, a beach wedding or a dude-style event. For such ceremonies, special booklets should be created, decorated in the spirit of the upcoming holiday. Scrolls always mean mystery, originality, and antiquity. Therefore, scroll invitations should only be created for weddings that involve an element of immersion in bygone times. If you are planning a retro wedding, scrolls will be more appropriate than ever. Scroll invitations are also ideal for an adventure-style wedding with a magical setting.

When do they come?

Scrolls are associated with antiquity, so you should not use them for ultra-modern and newfangled themed celebrations. They are inappropriate at a wedding in the style of a beach party, gangster, Hawaiian, or Soviet.
Such invitations will ideally fit into the concept of weddings that involve immersion in history: in the ancient Russian, Greek, knightly style. They will harmoniously fit into the idea of a classic celebration or the style of an eco-wedding.

In addition, scrolls are suitable for adventure scenarios , for example, for a “pirate” wedding. They could not be more appropriate for weddings based on historical fairy tales, films, cartoons and fantasy books.

Tea brew method

The most popular way to make antique paper with your own hands is the procedure with black tea. Its advantage is that it does not cost money and is quite fast in time. We will now tell you how to paint paper with antique tea.

So, prepare everything you need. You will need: brewing black tea (7 teaspoons), boiling water (250 ml), wide basin, ordinary white A4 sheets.

When everything is ready, get to work.

1. To create an antique effect, remember the paper. Do this carefully so as not to tear. Depending on the need, you can wrinkle the paper much or not much. The more you crumple, the more creases you get. However, you can do without this.

2. Pour loose leaf tea into a cup and pour boiling water over it. To make the tea brew better, cover it with a lid and let it brew. After the liquid in the cup turns black, strain the tea and pour it into a bowl.

3. Now take a piece of white paper and place it in the tea leaves at the bottom of the basin for a minute and a half.

4. Remove the tea leaf and place it on a flat surface. It is desirable that it be wood or metal. Because, for example, the towel will absorb the tea solution.

5. To give the leaf a completely realistic look, dip your fingers into a bowl of tea leaves. And using a shaking motion, spray it onto the surface of the leaf with your hand. The resulting and dried drops will give your sheet the appearance of antique paper.

6. After the sheet has dried, it can be ironed. Do this carefully and through thin fabric.

Tip: if you need a not very dark sheet of aged paper, then it is better to use 5 tsp. tea leaves Then it will turn out only slightly yellow.

Aging by the sun's rays

If there is no tea, milk, or coffee in your house, then we recommend the easiest way to make a sheet of antique paper using the sun. However, based on the conditions of our climate, it is sometimes much easier to get black tea or a cup of milk than the shining sun. But if you decide to do aging in the spring or summer, then everything is in your hands.

So, as you already understand, the essence of the method is extremely simple. All you need is to crumple up a piece of paper. It is best to use a thin sheet here. And hang it by the tip in a sunny place. Keep in mind that the sun moves during the day, which means the leaf should move after it. Direct sunlight will make the leaf yellower, and this effect can easily be mistaken for the effect of aged paper.

What should I use?

When preparing any celebration, it is very important to think through each stage. One of the most important is the invitation, because it is the business card, indicates the direction and sets the tone of the holiday

A DIY scroll will look creative and fresh against the backdrop of boring ordinary invitations. You can make this option at home, the main thing is to follow the sequence.

To make a scroll you need to prepare everything you need:

  • paper - preferably watercolor, if not, then any paper will do;
  • strong brew of tea or coffee;
  • soaking container;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • ribbon;
  • decor

Solving problems with the scroll in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

One of the problems associated with obtaining the Elder Scroll is a bug in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim itself. During the battle between the heroes and Alduin (the dragon), he may simply not arrive. This can happen if you open the scroll in advance and start moving. The solution is the opposite - after reading it, you need to stand still until Alduin arrives and the battle begins.

In addition, there is another bug in this mission. After the dragon arrives and the battle begins, it is also not advisable to move, since as a result of such an error, the player will not be able to harm the dragon. In addition, it is also undesirable to look for this scroll in a secondary quest, otherwise it simply will not appear during the main quest, which means the player will not be able to complete the game.

For notepad

Alina plans to get a retro notebook. How to speed up soaking and remove excess liquid using a ruler or the edge of a container? Why shouldn't you use newspaper? For drying, use a regular linen rack. After a few hours (unlike most MKs, where it is recommended to do this during the painting process), the author begins decorating. Leaves circles with a glass soaked in the solution, creating splashes and blots. The next stage is decorating with stamps using ink. The finishing touch is adding cinnamon and clove flavors. At the end, Alina carries out the same procedure with pieces of fabric and lace; They will be useful in designing your notebook.

Paper and pen method that works

Throw out of your head all the attitudes that you had until now. Psychologists and esotericists intimidate the public. They say that we are hindered by negative thoughts, self-distrust, and social standards. That's bullshit. Nothing can interfere with execution except you.

A technique that everyone can do:

  1. Calm down. Raise optimism in your chest.
  2. Make a sincere request.
  3. Write down with a firm hand, without allowing a shadow of doubt.
  4. Fold into quarters. Hold it in your palm.
  5. Feel what you want to feel at the moment of incarnation. Focus for a few seconds on the state of possession, delight, fullness.

What happens next depends on the zodiac sign and element of the performer:

  1. It is advisable for Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius to work with fire. Burn the note, for example, in a candle flame.
  2. Water signs - Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio - should turn to their element. Send it on a boat along the stream and drown it in the lake. Just don’t flush it down the toilet - you’ll jinx it.
  3. For airy ones - Gemini, Libra, Aquarius - it is optimal to tear the leaf into small pieces and throw it away: from the balcony, from the horse, from the roof.
  4. For Capricorns, Taurus, and Virgos, it is logical to bury the wish in the ground. If you don’t want to go outside, then hide it at the bottom of a flower pot.

Last step:

Try to get rid of restrictions. You don't know fate for sure. Therefore, say at the end of the ritual:

Additionally, take action to change yourself in the area you are trying to change. For example, if you are worried about a small amount of money, then you need to increase your self-worth. Girls are encouraged to wear jewelry. If you don’t have money for gold, wear jewelry. Decorate yourself, showing the Highest that you deserve more.

From weaving to paper and back

Paper production today can be considered one of the most technically and technologically advanced production processes. Paper is produced on paper machines that operate continuously around the clock with short technical stops once a week or even less frequently. There are almost no people to be found in the huge paper workshop. The service shift manages the process while sitting at the monitors. This is a fully automated production. A modern paper-making machine produces paper webs at speeds of up to 2 or more kilometers per minute. The width of this canvas often reaches 12 meters. Daily output is transported from the enterprise by trains.

Karl Marx in his work “Capital” called the paper machine an example of a mechanized, continuously operating unit.

In the development of paper production in the 21st century, fundamental changes are occurring that are characteristic of all production activities. Once considered an art, paper production, which passed through human hands many times, has become highly automated and robotic.

Composing the text

The text should emphasize the theme of the celebration and reflect a friendly, sincere attitude towards the guests.

Usually it is necessary to indicate:

  • date, place and time of the holiday;
  • names of those invited (if a couple is invited, then the lady’s name is written first);
  • if they want to see the guest only at an official ceremony or banquet, the time and place of the specific part is indicated.

Scroll invitations eloquently tell the invitees that the celebration will have a certain style.

Therefore, it is necessary to indicate in what style the wedding will be held and briefly, perhaps in a humorous tone, talk about the desired dress code.

The message can be written in verse, or old ornate phrases can be inserted into the text. It all depends on the desires and imagination of the future spouses.

Master class “Ancient scroll”

Today my father-in-law turned 65 years old. A beautiful date requires a special gift. I composed a poem in his honor, baked a cake and designed a congratulation in the form of an ancient scroll. I'll show you how to make a scroll now.

Materials and tools for the master class “Ancient Scroll”

A sheet of congratulations in A4 format Twine Tray for cookies Cup with brewed ground coffee Hairdryer Toothbrush Candle Matches Ancient seal (see previous master class) Glue

1. Print out the congratulations on an A4 sheet.

2. Place the sheet in the tray.

3. Brew ground coffee and pour it onto our leaf. Soak the leaf in coffee for 15 minutes.

Old grey-green leaf

Experienced craftsmen know a thousand and one methods of coloring ordinary white paper into an old, wrinkled one. And sometimes greenish paper is needed for certain purposes. So, ordinary brilliant green will help to make it like this. Surely a bottle of the well-known green stuff can be found in any home.

Prepare: rubber gloves, brilliant green, paper and 200 ml of cold water, basin.

1. Remember the paper and wear gloves so as not to get your hands dirty when working with a caustic substance.

2. Add 6-7 drops of brilliant green to cold water and stir well. However, without stirring the water, you will get nice streaks on the sheet. What could be the highlight of your work? The photo below shows a notebook soaked in the solution.

3. Dip the snow-white leaf into a bowl of brilliant green and leave it there for a minute. Take the leaf out by the edge and lay it on the surface. Here we need to add that it is best to cover the surface with polyethylene. Otherwise, the green solution will be absorbed into the place where you decided to dry the sheet. When the paper is dry, you can iron it.

Newsletter

Some difficulties may arise during distribution.

The scrolls will not fit into a regular envelope. You can, of course, put them in a box and send them by post as a parcel post, but all the solemnity is lost, and the invitee will have to go and receive the parcel post in person. The following options are preferable:

  • delivering it yourself and handing it over personally
    is the most reliable and pleasant way for guests, but it is not suitable for those invited from afar;
  • convey by messenger:
    you can hire an actor or ask someone you know to dress up in a themed costume, for example, an ancient Russian hero or a pirate;
  • courier service:
    suitable for delivering invitations to out-of-town guests.

Advice!

If it is not possible to transfer the scrolls using one of these methods, there is only one option left - sending the text by email.

Invitations are usually sent out at least a couple of weeks before the celebration.

They must be delivered to guests from remote areas within a month or a month and a half, so that people have time to purchase tickets, take time off from work, and plan their expenses. If you plan, it is advisable to invite guests even earlier, since many people have vacations during this period.

"Elder Scroll" in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The "Elder Scroll" in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a quest item, an artifact that the player can receive while completing his main quest. In order to find this scroll and get your hands on it, the player should visit the “Dwemer Ruins”.

First you need to look into the College of Winterhold. Here you need to find a character named Farald. Naturally, no one will let the player through just like that. This character needs to demonstrate a scream or buy some spell and use it. Then, when the main character is let in, you need to go into the library and go up to the second floor. Here you will need to find Urag gro-Shub, who after the conversation will give out two books, from which you can find out the location of the scroll.

You need to read them and approach Septimius Segonius. When the player finds him, he will tell you that the “Ancient Scroll” is located inside the “Dwemer Ruins”, namely in the “Black Reach”. After making their way through Alftand, the player finds himself in a huge cave, the Black Reach. In order to find the scroll, just follow the marker to the Mzark tower. There is a Dwemer observatory, where the treasured “Ancient Scroll” lies in the chest.

After the player finds this artifact, he will need to climb to the “Throat of the World”, where in a specially designated place he will be able to read this scroll and receive a special skill called “Dragon Slayer Scream”. The artifact itself, after receiving it, can neither be read nor thrown away, but, fortunately, it can be sold to the librarian Urag gro-Shub.

Old paper effect with coffee

When talking about how to make scrolls at home, experienced needlewomen note that instant coffee is ideal for these purposes. You need to work with it in the same way as we described in the previous paragraph. However, you must first prepare the correct solution.

Making it at home is not difficult. You just need to pour boiling water into a small bowl. Then add ten teaspoons of instant coffee. If this drink is not found at home, you can use cocoa powder. It should be taken in the same proportion as coffee. After this, stir thoroughly until the dry component is completely dissolved and then use it to age the paper.

Required materials and tools

To age paper at home, you don’t have to use expensive or inaccessible products. Almost certainly everything you need is available in every home. Therefore, before moving on to studying step-by-step master classes, you need to prepare:

  • plain white paper;
  • brewing black leaf tea;
  • small bowl;
  • a shallow bowl large enough to hold a sheet of paper;
  • milk of any fat content;
  • instant coffee or cocoa powder;
  • Matchbox;
  • boiling water (water heated to one hundred degrees);
  • iron.

Steps

Part 1

Choose a design

Consider the different types of scrolls.

Check out the different types of scrolls and decide which one is right for you. Scrolls have been used for centuries in countries such as China, Egypt and Greece. Look online at what different scrolls look like and choose the one that looks perfect to you!

  • Decide whether you want the scroll to look modern or ancient. If you want to give your scroll an ancient look, consider antiquing the paper.
  • The scroll doesn't have to be an exact copy of what you found on the Internet! You can make an original scroll or combine the characteristics of different scrolls.
  • Choose suitable paper.
    Choose paper for your scroll. You can use thick colored paper, drawing paper, or regular printer paper. All these types of paper can be given an old look with the help of tea or coffee.

    Decide what to write on paper.

    Scrolls have long been used both as decoration and for various records. Think about what to write or draw on the scroll. You can put both text and drawings on one scroll!

    Part 2

    Aging the paper

    Crumple the paper.

    Remember the paper so it looks worn and old. Lightly spray the paper with water and scrunch it into a ball. After this, straighten the paper. Crumple the paper a few more times to create more creases.

  • After this, you can lightly iron the paper to even it out.

You can limit yourself to this if the paper looks the way you need. If you want to color the paper to make it look even more ancient, proceed to the next steps.

If you use brown paper for the bags, there is no need to dye it. Brew coffee or tea.

You can color the paper using coffee or tea. Choose a suitable drink and brew enough to cover the entire leaf. If you are in junior high school, ask your parents to help you.

Apply the liquid to the paper.

Take a fairly spacious baking tray, place paper in it and treat it with tea or coffee. You can blot the paper with a sponge, lubricate it with a brush, or simply pour liquid over it so that it acquires the desired color. Make sure the coffee or tea is not too hot.

Dry the paper.

Hang the paper on clothespins to dry. In clear weather, you can hang the paper outside. You can also spread the paper on a clean, smooth surface that you don’t mind getting dirty.

Wear the edges of the paper.

A sheet of paper can be given an even more ancient look if its edges are further processed. You can hold the edges of the paper over the flame of a match at a safe distance to char them slightly (do this over a non-flammable surface). Then lightly crease the edges of the paper. Crumple and rub the burnt edges of the paper until they achieve the look you want. You can also lightly tear the edges with your fingers.

Part 3

Make a scroll

Write on the scroll.

It's time to add inscriptions and drawings to the scroll! It's best to use a black pen, especially if you're using thin paper or paper bags. If you want to decorate your scroll, you can use crayons or pencils.

Be careful with paints and markers, especially with paper bags, as the paint may bleed through the thin paper.

Select suitable rods.

Thanks to the rods, the scroll is easier to unwind and roll. Round bars can be purchased at a craft store. Cut the rods out of them so that their length matches the width of the sheet of paper. You will need two rods, one for each end of the sheet. You can use chopsticks instead of bars.

One of the oldest letters is a scroll. A scroll is a strip of paper rolled into a tube. Usually it is tied with a beautiful ribbon and secured with a seal. Today scrolls have become exotic. This master class is about how to make a scroll with your own hands

.Postcard scroll

will delight your friends or loved ones with its originality and novelty. Writing a congratulation or invitation on such a piece of paper is much more interesting and pleasant than on a purchased postcard. By the way, the text for the scroll can be printed. Well, you can print a vintage frame along with the text. You can also find other postcard master classes on our website

Some interesting ideas

As mentioned above, invitation cards available for sale in specialized stores are not particularly original. Therefore, it is better to make a creative and unusual wedding invitation with your own hands. here is to express your individuality, but to make it clear to the people to whom you give such cards, in a way that is clear to you . Here are some unusual ideas to help you create your own wedding invitations:

  • Use original photographs . Today you can order the production of postcards in any format from one of the many printing houses. Conduct a photo shoot and choose the most successful pictures, in your opinion. You can make different options for photo invitations for friends and relatives. If you are sure that the closest people in your social circle will appreciate your humor, take an interesting and funny photo at the door of the registry office, for example, where the bride is forcibly dragging the reluctant groom inside. For the rest of the guests, you can take a photo where two future newlyweds are holding a sign with the inscription “We invite you.”
  • If you are interested in any kind of needlework, use it when creating wedding invitations . The ability to embroider may come in handy. You can, for example, embroider two gold rings in the middle of a rectangular outline, and the word “Invitation” on top. A piece of fabric with embroidery needs to be glued to a sheet of cardboard folded in half, inside which the invitation text will be written. Quilling, which has become popular recently, can also be used to create an original invitation card. Using multi-colored strips of paper you can depict two swans or doves, hearts, rings, flowers and even cupids.
  • Lace, ribbons and beads can be useful to you to create an original wedding invitation with your own hands . Making a postcard using such materials is quite simple. A piece of cardboard, folded in half, should be covered with lace or white satin fabric. You can attach them to paper using threads or transparent glue that does not turn yellow when dry. On a lace or satin background, using thin gold or silver ribbons, you can depict two wedding rings. The phrase “We invite you to the wedding” is “written” from ribbons or beads.
  • If you have the talent of an artist, then you can draw the invitation yourself.

To learn how to make a wedding toast in your own words, all you need to do is read our article. At the following address you will read the basic principles of drawing up a party script in the style of “Hipsters”.

We age paper with milk

If you want to create not just a yellow-red gift scroll, but one that is as similar as possible to the real one, you should use the method described below.

It requires preparing milk and a cotton pad or regular cotton wool. After that, take a sheet of paper and place it in front of you. We wet the disk in milk and begin to slap it on the snow-white surface

Moreover, it is important to do this, if possible, unevenly. Having completed the described manipulations, leave the paper to dry.

However, the work doesn't end there. When the future scroll has dried thoroughly, cover it with a thin cotton cloth and iron it with an iron. You can also hold the leaf over the flame if you wish.

But it is important to prevent fire. Our task is to lightly scorch and smoke the paper

How to fold paper

Another interesting point in coloring paper. It turns out that with different methods of folding paper dipped in solutions, the result is different. A crumpled leaf dropped into a basin in the same form is obtained with contrasting spots. A sheet folded in four will acquire soft color transitions. And if you decide to color a stack of paper at once, stacking it on top of each other, you can expect fairly bright edges and a lighter center of the paper.

Thus, you can age not only blank white sheets of paper, but also black and white pictures printed on a printer. In this case, you will receive a real vintage postcard, signed on the back side which you can present to your loved one. Also, quite often, paper aging is done by those people who need to make certificates of honor in a vintage style.

Decor for wedding invitation scroll

The decor for a scroll wedding invitation can be made using a thin satin ribbon. Wrap the scroll and make a bow. The ribbon should be very thin, 2 mm wide and 15-20 cm long.

You can also tie the scroll with twine and make a stamp from sealing wax (sealing wax can be replaced with candle wax).

This is the ancient scroll we made with our 10-year-old son. The scroll was made after an excursion to the Cheese House Museum, located in the village of Tomarovka, Belgorod region, and will participate in an exhibition dedicated to this excursion. From the guide we heard several legends about the origin of cheese and learned about the beneficial qualities of cheese products, the stages of their production, and also tasted the most popular varieties of cheese. Why did we make a scroll? To answer this question, a little background: There are about 700 types of cheese in the world. Cheeses are classified according to the method of milk coagulation into rennet and fermented milk cheeses, and according to the method of production - into hard, soft and brine cheeses. Separately, there are processed cheeses, which are made by melting natural cheese using special salts. Historians believe that it is quite possible that cheese is as ancient as bread, because as soon as people mastered cattle breeding, curdled milk and cottage cheese appeared, which made it possible to preserve milk, although in a modified form, but for quite a long time. Curdled milk and cottage cheese turned out to be the “parents” of cheese. The art of making cheese was well known already in Ancient Egypt during the time of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, who bequeathed barrels of goat cheese to be placed in his tomb. My son and I decided that if cheese was found in the tomb, then why the recipe for this cheese wouldn’t be there either.

There are many varieties of scrolls, but we liked this particular scroll, which is twisted on both sides.

At work, I took two tubes from used fax film, we painted them with brown acrylic. I printed the text of the cheese recipe on office paper, after which they mercilessly crumpled this sheet and put it in a plate, where they had previously dissolved a heaped teaspoon of coffee in hot water. A minute later the paper was pulled out and placed on the file to dry. In the open air, the paper will take a long time to dry, but if you put it on a radiator, the drying process will speed up much more.

When the paper is dry, unfold it: if the antiquity effect does not suit us, then you can take a pinch of instant coffee and sprinkle (crushing it into small grains in your fingers) in the right places, and then sprinkle a little on top from a spray bottle and dry again. The paper after all manipulations, you can iron it by placing it between two sheets (so that all the inscriptions and coffee stains do not remain on the iron), or you can leave it wrinkled.

We glue double-sided tape to the top and bottom edges, and glue our tubes to the tape.

But what is a scroll without a personal seal?

We tie a string on the top tube, leave one end long (we will use it later to tie the scroll closed), and the other short.

Take any household candle and drip wax onto the file, creating a round shape. The wax hardens quickly, but not as we would like, so when you see that the wax begins to flow (as there is a lot of it) from the intended circle, put out the candle and wait a little for the wax to harden..., then light the candle again and drip again. When our circle becomes more or less thick, we put our tied whip on it and drip wax onto it until it is no longer visible.

Since we have a scroll from Egypt, the seal will be with the pharaoh (I have a beautiful spoon brought from Egypt). You can use a beautiful embossed button or brooch, or make a wooden seal. Make sure that the wax hardens a little, but not completely, and press our spoon into it.

We paint our print with brown acrylic paint on both sides. The paint must be thick, otherwise the wax will repel it.

Well, the print is ready! (can't be distinguished from sealing wax)

We wrap our recipe in a scroll and tie it on top with the long end of a string.

And in this form our scroll will take part in the exhibition.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by!!!

I hope our MK is useful to someone!!!

Such a scroll can be made as an invitation to any celebration, as a congratulation (especially for a man), or simply for interior decoration

Making a scroll with your own hands is an interesting idea. This item reeks of antiquity, which in itself is fascinating. It can be used as an invitation to special events. It’s safe to say that guests will be delighted, because they are not often seen in everyday life. How to make a scroll with your own hands? Very simple. If you are interested, then let's take a closer look at this issue.

DIY invitations in the form of a “scroll”

You can turn to specialists who will bring your ideas to life, but it is much more interesting to make invitations yourself and save money at the same time. This does not require any special skills or abilities, and finding the necessary materials will not be difficult.

Tools and materials

To make a scroll you will need:

  1. A4 sheets of paper are the most common option. Larger formats cannot be printed on a regular printer. You need to take thick sheets for watercolors or drawing. Handmade paper will also work. It has an uneven structure, reminiscent of fabric;
  2. Printer;
  3. a black pen if you write the text by hand;
  4. coffee or tea, spices - vanillin, cinnamon, so that the invitations acquire a subtle pleasant aroma;
  5. solution container;
  6. regular or corrugated scissors;
  7. candle, matches (second option – black distress ink);
  8. brush;
  9. hole puncher;
  10. silicone stamps for decoration;
  11. thin rope;
  12. sealing wax (a special wax gun with glue-type sticks is very convenient) and wax seal (homemade or custom-made).

Important! What exactly you need from this list depends on how close you plan to bring your scroll to its ancient counterparts. The minimum inexpensive kit for making simple options includes: paper, a black pen, a candle, scissors, coffee or tea, and a string for bandaging.

Aging the paper

Distressing is necessary because the white sheets do not go well with the chosen invitation concept. A warm, saturated solution of coffee or tea is poured into a rectangular container, vanillin and cinnamon are added.
Sheets of paper are placed one by one in the solution and kept for a couple of minutes to half an hour, depending on how rich the shade you want to get. The paper can be crumpled beforehand, and then slightly straightened out, so that when stained, dark “antique” creases will form.

Then the sheets are laid on a flat surface to dry. If you're in a hurry, you can dry it with a hairdryer. If you want the inside of the scroll, where the text will be printed, to be lighter than the outside, the sheet of paper is placed on a newspaper. For additional streaks, you can place instant coffee granules on damp paper.

You can look for craft paper in construction or stationery stores. This is a dense packaging material of light brown color. If you can buy such paper, you can save time on aging. When rolled up, it looks like an ancient scroll. You can also spray it with hot coffee or tea to create characteristic stains.

Burning the edges

There are two ways.

In the first case, the sheet is rolled into a tube and several layers are burned simultaneously on a candle. This is a quick method , but we must take into account that the edges may end up with deep depressions, which does not always look aesthetically pleasing. In addition, the burning edges will need to be dipped in a container of water. With the second method, firing is more uniform and accurate if you quickly pass the edges of the sheet through the flame so that they do not have time to become heavily charred. Practice on a scrap piece of paper first. You may have to experimentally determine what angle of inclination of the paper to the flame is optimal. Otherwise, soot will appear.

You can also create a burning effect using distress ink. You need to randomly tear off the edges or trim them with scissors, and then tint them with ink.

Choose a font and print

The text is usually printed after the painted sheets have dried, but before firing.
It is advisable to set the font to brown. Don't forget to print the word "Invitation" on the outside. Note! If you print the text first and then color it, be sure to use a laser printer rather than an inkjet printer, otherwise the ink will bleed.
You need to choose a suitable antique font. Choose applied fonts that imitate calligraphic writing or are stylized in the Old Russian style.

Suitable:

  • Aquarelle;
  • Olietta script BoldItalic;
  • Monotype Corsiva;
  • Monika Script;
  • Primo.

You can also write invitations manually. But this method is suitable if you have beautiful calligraphic handwriting and few invitations. Otherwise the process will be tedious.

We print and decorate

In the same way as the invitations were made, you need to make rectangular labels. The names of the guests are printed on them. A hole is made with a hole punch. The invitation is rolled up and loosely wrapped in rope. Its ends are passed through a hole in the label and tied in a knot.

The twine tails must be placed on a flat, heat-resistant surface.
It will be best to separate the sealing wax from a silicone baking dish, worse - from glass and metal. Fill the tails of the rope with hot sealing wax, stepping back a little from the end. Wait until it cools down slightly. Make an impression on wax. Idea! The print may include the names of the newlyweds, the wedding date, and wedding symbols such as swans or doves.
Prints with imprints of flowers and geometric patterns also look beautiful. Instead of a rope, you can use gold braid as decoration, with tassels attached to the ends, as well as a lace ribbon. The inner surface of the invitation is decorated with silicone stamps.

Those invited will certainly want to preserve such an original message. You don't have to break the seal or cut the rope to read it. It can be easily removed even when tied.

If you want to make scrolls in a decorative classic version, you need expensive paper in delicate pastel colors with gold or silver embossing. It will not need to be painted or fired. It will be enough to simply type the text.

The edges can be trimmed with serrated scissors and finished with gold distress ink. The leaf is rolled up into a tube and tied with a satin or silk ribbon, a strip of narrow lace, a thick twisted golden thread, decorated and fastened with artificial flowers. Sealing wax is inappropriate here.

Such invitations are appropriate not only for themed weddings, but also for those in a single color, for example, gold.

Manufacturing process

At first glance, it may seem that making a scroll with your own hands from paper is difficult, but this is not at all the case. The process is exciting and creative, you can involve children, they will be interested. Let's look at what to do and how to do it in order:

The first thing to do is brew strong tea or make coffee, let it cool a little, the liquid should not be too hot, it is better to let it be a little warm.

  • To give the paper an antique effect, you need to crumple it, then smooth it out well with your hands.
  • Cut the paper to the required size and lower it into a container for soaking, pour the tea leaves solution on top and leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • After the time has passed, you need to dry the sheet on newspapers, a towel or a hairdryer, this will be the fastest way.
  • You need to process the edges - tear them off or burn them. In the second option, you should act quickly and carefully - the paper should not catch fire, otherwise all your efforts will be in vain.
  • Now you can start designing your invitation or congratulations. The text can be written with a pencil or paints, dipping it into water each time so that the inscription blurs a little - this will add a special charm. You can print a pre-selected verse on paper and carefully glue it. Very little glue is needed, after which you need to put the scroll under the press so that it does not deform.
  • If desired, we add various decorative elements - ribbons, seals or stamps.
  • You can tie a scroll using twine and a seal made of polymer clay, you can also attach it to beautiful sticks and roll it on both sides. Any of these options will look original.

How to give greater historical authenticity?

So, we figured out how to create the effect of old paper. However, if desired, it can be strengthened a little. And then we will tell you how.

Regardless of which method the reader used earlier, we prepare a box of matches and some instant coffee. First of all, burn the edges of the leaf. The main thing is to also prevent fire, otherwise all the work will go down the drain. Having achieved the desired result, grind the coffee granules in several places, thus making the color uneven.

When you are completely satisfied with the result, you need to carefully roll the prepared paper into a roll. Next, prepare a red candle, twine or twine, a coin or signet ring, if available. We need to secure the roll so that it does not unroll prematurely. Therefore, first we tie it with twine. Then we light a candle and drip wax onto the scroll. We wait a few seconds so that the mass has time to set, and we make an imprint on it. The main thing is not to forget to write a congratulation or invitation on your scroll. It is advisable to do this in calligraphic handwriting.

We hope that our master class on how to make a paper scroll with your own hands will help you create the most realistic parchment that will become an original and, undoubtedly, memorable gift for any occasion. It should also be noted that recently artificially aged paper has been used to create unusual wedding invitations. Perhaps this information will also be useful to the reader.
