The price and the ability to choose the location and concept of the future celebration depend on exactly how the young people decided to get married - for real or just to have a symbolic wedding on the seashore.
Any agencies organizing such events are based on what kind of ceremony the newlyweds want to receive.
Let's look at both options in more detail.
Wedding Venues in Greece
Greece is the perfect place for a wedding. This country can make any dream come true, because it is located on thousands of islands that are washed by different seas, and therefore have different natural resources and unique architecture. The sun shines brightly here all year round, so newlyweds visit Greece, regardless of the season. In summer they choose the sea for their wedding, and in winter they choose mountains and thermal springs. Popular places in Greece among newlyweds are the islands of Crete, Santorini, Rhodes, Mykonos and the charming town of Napfio, located on the Peloponnese peninsula.
Wedding in Santorini
The island of Santorini is an ancient, exotic and mysterious place in Greece with sandy beaches, small villages and domed monasteries. Here the newlyweds will have a magnificent view of the volcano, the largest crater in the world, and the couple will also be able to enjoy magnificent sunsets. The traditional colors of Santorini are pleasing to the eye and match the wedding mood.
On the island of Crete
Sunny Crete with golden beaches, blue-green sea and tropical palm trees is the most popular destination in all of Greece. This is an island of conquerors and pirates. It is believed that Zeus, the god of thunder and lightning, the main god of the Greek pantheon, was born here. Where, if not on Crete, can newlyweds swear eternal love to each other? It's very Greek!
Ceremony in Mykonos
A wedding on the island of Mykonos will not be cheap for newlyweds, because it is a favorite place for world celebrities. This is the most fashionable bohemian resort in Greece with stunning nature. It is difficult to find a more beautiful and romantic place, which is why newlyweds from all over the world choose Mykonos for their wedding and honeymoon.
Wedding in Rhodes
Rhodes got its name from the Sun God, who fell in love with a nymph and named this magnificent island after her. The pristine nature, the aura of sanctity of the place, which is home to several churches of the Holy Apostles, and the modesty of the island in Greece make it the first choice for wedding ceremonies. Romance and comfort await newlyweds in this place.
Wedding in Nafplio
Nafplio is the most charismatic city in Greece. There is a special aura and atmosphere here that attracts newlyweds with ancient legends. This is a small city, but very suitable for a romantic wedding, with narrow streets that suddenly go up, with numerous balconies entwined with thickets of charming bougainvillea.
Why choose August
The question that couples often face when planning a honeymoon is when to plan a wedding and in which month is it better to organize the celebration. I want the trip to give a lot of pleasant impressions and memories, meet all wishes and at the same time not go beyond the budget.
What are the differences between romantic honeymoon destinations in August:
- in most resorts in August the temperature is more pleasant, not as hot as in the first summer months;
- towards the end of August, tour operators reduce prices; if the trip is planned for the first days of August, the cost of the trip will differ significantly;
- You can stay within a small budget by choosing countries where the holiday season is nearing its end or just beginning.
Reviews from Russians about marrying Greeks
Natalya, 28 years old:
“Before the wedding, my future husband and I dated for about 5 years. Only then did we decide to formalize our relationship. First we entered into a cohabitation contract. We lived like this for a year and a half. Then my husband proposed to enter into an official marriage.
Of course, I had to collect a lot of paperwork, it took about 6 months, but it was worth it. The wedding took place in a church, there were many relatives, the celebration was unforgettable.”
Zinaida, 32 years old:
“My husband is a Greek citizen. We have been married for almost 10 years, we have two children. We live in Athens. During preparations for the wedding, we had problems with the preparation of my documents.
They had to be translated and apostilled; for this purpose I had to travel to Russia several times. The same thing had to be done in order for the union to be recognized as legal in our country.”
Rhodes
As a result of the collapse of the ancient continent of Egetda into parts, a chain of islands was formed, including Rhodes. There are 3 peaks in the mountainous area:
- Atabiry;
- Profitis-Ilias, called Prophet Elijah;
- Akramit.
At the foot of the mountains there are fertile plains, on which, in addition to oaks and plane trees, a huge number of flowers grow, especially cyclamens.
Getting to Rhodes is easy; it has its own Diagoras airport, located near the village of Paradisione, 14 km from Rhodes, the capital of the island. There are 2 ports for ships. The island is part of the Dodecanese archipelago, lies between the Cretan Sea in the west and the Libyan Sea in the east. For newlyweds, the hotel has deluxe rooms, which are decorated with flowers upon arrival. A romantic dinner can be enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the sea and sunset.
Rhodes will appeal to lovers of active recreation and those who want to relax on the beaches. The Filariki resort offers entertainment:
- water parks;
- night clubs;
- discos;
- attractions.
There are many medieval architectural monuments in the central part of the island. Cozy beaches in the resorts of Lindos, Ixia, Kamiros.
How to organize a wedding in Greece
Every year, many loving couples from Russia want to get married on the Greek islands, because every celebration is colorful, unique, inimitable. It is easier to organize a ceremony if you contact specialists (an agency) who will solve problems that arise, from preparing documents to excellent organization of a honeymoon in Greece. The travel agency will offer the newlyweds a large number of different wedding programs, and the young people will only have to solve one problem: which project in Greece to choose?
A wedding agency in Moscow will take care of all the hassle of holding and organizing the wedding.
It is also possible to hold a wedding in Greece on your own. To do this, the newlyweds will need:
- Decide on the place where the wedding will be held.
- Agree in advance with the local Municipality about the time/date of the event.
- Come up with a program.
- Book a hotel in Greece.
- Find a good hairdresser, translator, photographer, decorator and professional musical accompaniment at the chosen resort.
Official wedding
Greece is a party to the agreement recognizing the legality of marriages performed by Russian citizens, therefore it is completely legal to get married on its territory. The mayor of any Greek city will be happy to register a marriage by prior arrangement. After registration, an official document with an apostille is issued, which has legal force not only in Greece, but also in all countries of the world. The newlyweds will only have to make a notarized translation of the document into Russian.
The Greek side may refuse registration if:
- newlyweds under 18 years of age;
- one of the spouses was divorced less than a year ago;
- ex-husband disappeared less than 4 years ago;
- marriage between adopted children, adoptive parents or their descendants.
If there are no reasons for prohibitions, then to officially register a marriage in Greece, young people will need the following documents:
- Russian internal passports for newlyweds.
- International passports.
- Birth certificates, with apostille and English translation, certified by a notary.
Symbolic wedding
It is even easier to hold a symbolic wedding in Greece. To do this, the newlyweds will need to register their marriage by visiting the Russian registry office, buy a tourist voucher, and arrange a symbolic wedding ceremony on any Greek island. Such a wedding can become a dress rehearsal for two before formalizing the marriage in their homeland. There are many advantages to holding a wedding on one of the many Greek islands:
- short flight;
- obtaining a visa will not take much time, especially if the newlyweds already have a Schengen visa;
- carrying out a wedding ceremony will not be difficult, because there are a huge number of Orthodox churches on the territory of Greece;
- wedding on the most beautiful islands on the planet.
Groom image
Finding the perfect outfit for the groom is easier.
Advice! For a Greek wedding, a classic is suitable - a strict black suit.
If the groom has tanned or naturally dark skin, an all-white pantsuit looks impressive . If the ceremony is planned for a hot time, then a white shirt and white trousers are enough.
The same white hat is suitable as an accessory, and if the absolute whiteness of the groom’s outfit is not impressive, you can add a few contrasting details - a bright carrot tie or a colorful boutonniere on the jacket.

Signs
Those who are inclined to listen to folk wisdom can pay attention to the signs associated with a Greek wedding :
- If you put a piece of sugar in the bride's glove, married life will be sweet;
- On the soles of her wedding sandals or shoes, the bride writes the names of her unmarried friends present at the celebration. The one whose name is erased first will soon get married;
- The bride is not allowed to turn back or return on the way to the ceremony, and the groom is not allowed to see her dress before the wedding, otherwise misfortune will happen;
- In order for newlyweds to live richly, they are showered with money or coins are attached directly to their clothes.
Guests must give money to the newlyweds. This tradition symbolizes the transfer of well-being to the newlywed couple.
Santorini
Tiny on the map, Santorini is nicknamed the white honeymoon island. All year round, lovers from Europe come to spend their first holiday together. Legend has it that the island used to be a part of Atlantis. Couples who visit it will live happily and long. The fabulously beautiful nature and numerous monasteries, castles, and endless staircases help you believe this.
Every step of the way in Santorini there are wonderful places to create unique wedding photos. The background can be an azure sea, green forests on the slopes, among which you can see ancient buildings, steps going into the sky, the walls of monasteries and fortresses.
The island is of volcanic origin. Steep slopes rise straight out of the water. Among them, in the coves, the beaches have sand of different colors, from pink to black. These are pieces of frozen magma broken on the shore and ground over hundreds of years.
Ayiu Muna Newlyweds Church
Newlyweds must visit the symbol of the island, the church of Ayiu Mina. Built in the 17th century, the temple stands on top of a cliff. It can be seen from anywhere in the city of Oia and from the sea. In the architectural structure of the Renaissance style, features of the Renaissance and later Neoclassicism are visible. The church has a symmetrical central entrance. Small windows and doors are reminiscent of the many wars on the island. To defend against attempts to seize the fertile land, all buildings were erected from stone and used as fortresses.
The second reason for small openings is the hot climate. Thick snow-white walls kept the building cool inside. Hot air could only penetrate through the windows.
The blue hemispherical roofs of the towers blend in color with the water. Doors and window frames in Greece are traditionally painted the color of the sky, the walls are white - the color of the Greek flag. The openwork arches of the bell tower stand out against the background of the sea. They seem light, weightless, towering above the stone walls.
You will have to walk up the steps to get to the Ayinu Mina Church. In the old part of Oia, where the temple is located, there are narrow pedestrian streets. The only means of transport are donkeys. They will be willing to provide them to a tired bride so that her legs can rest while the couple goes up to the church.
In the evening, do not rush to leave the city. You can admire the sunset from the top of the cliff. The sun in this place plays its rays especially beautifully, plunging into the sea.
In total, there are 352 temples on the island, the Faros lighthouse, and several museums.
Hotels and entertainment
In deluxe hotels (5 stars), the newlyweds’ room will be decorated with flowers and garlands, vases of fruit will be placed, and a festive atmosphere will be created. Hotels of categories A and B have luxury rooms for newlyweds with the highest level of service and luxurious interior. Food is brought directly to your room and served on the large balcony. You should definitely enjoy Greek national cuisine. A variety of dishes from freshly caught fish with spices, cheeses, vegetables, fruits. Beautiful and appetizing fruits are always in the room.
You need to book a room for newlyweds in advance, 3-5 months in advance. If there are no rooms in a suite, you should look at hotels of a lower class: A and B. Each of them has a deluxe room for newlyweds.
During the day, entertainment includes the beach and excursions. You can eat in numerous restaurants and cafes on the shore and close to every attraction. Once you stop to look around the village, the locals will offer you to try the products they make themselves.
In the evening bars and nightclubs open. A lot of young people from the island and visitors gather there.
Accessories
The appearance of the glasses, ring cushions and crown for the newlyweds should correspond to the theme of the wedding. When designing them, use the following tips:
- Decorate the glasses with pastel-colored flowers or silver and golden patterns;
- If desired, replace the glasses with metal goblets tied with purple ribbons;
- order a crown for the newlyweds from gold or silver, it should be stylized as a laurel branch, if desired, complement the design with inserts of precious stones;
- Ring cushions can be shaped like grape leaves or decorated with shiny embroidery or flowers.
It is advisable to adhere to the color scheme characteristic of the Greek style - choose accessories in olive, yellow, white or light blue.
Corfu Island
Corfu is a budget holiday destination in Greece and an ideal destination for a family holiday. The island is very green, with lots of picturesque beaches. The most beautiful (not only on the island, but in all of Greece )
— Sidari beach, some parts of it are separated on both sides by rocks, creating a calm bay and a place for solitude. During this time, children can be sent to Sidari Water Park - the water park is located 10 minutes from the beach. Entrance - 5 € (≈ 360 rubles) per person.
We recommend organizing a family boat trip: dad will be the captain, mom will be the boatswain and a couple of enthusiastic cabin boys. In Greece, boats with a power of up to 30 horsepower can be rented without a license; renting a small boat will cost about 40 € (≈ 2800 rubles).
Panoramic view of the bay of Porto Timoni.
The larger the boat, the more expensive the rental will be. Plus you will have to pay for gasoline, but it’s worth it - a family trip to the Aegean Sea will be remembered by your loved ones for a long time. You can stop for a swim and eat anywhere: on the coast you are sure to come across dozens of cute taverns where you will be fed inexpensive Greek cuisine. For example, have a snack at the Aquarius restaurant - parents will like seafood, and children will like desserts. The average bill is 40 € (≈ 2900 rubles).
Hotel recommendations from Ostrovok.ru (choose and book)
Greece is a win-win option for a vacation, because here everyone will find something to their liking. So grab your swimsuit, a book of myths, and your favorite sunglasses. And rest there for us. Well, which resort to choose is up to you.
Travel budget
The travel budget will be different for everyone, because the cost of an independent holiday in Greece is determined only by the traveler himself, and not by a travel agency or anyone else. I will give the average prices for a week's holiday in Greece for two people:

Honeymoon in Greece, or a fairytale wedding on the islands
The hectic wedding day is over, and a magical honeymoon promises a lot of positive emotions and unforgettable impressions! Why not combine a wedding tour to Greece and a wedding in an amazing setting?
The sacrament of a wedding is in itself a very beautiful and bewitching tradition, and a wedding held surrounded by exotic nature will certainly leave a warm mark in the memory of all those present.
If you are planning to combine the sacrament and a honeymoon trip to Greece, organize this moment in advance. You can do this either on your own or by seeking help from professionals who can help you choose tours to Greece.
What is needed for a wedding in Greece:
- The age of the spouses is over 18 years;
- Lack of family ties;
- Both spouses are required to provide birth and baptismal certificates;
- Certificates confirming that the newly-made spouses have not previously undergone the sacrament of marriage;
- Wedding license. Issued by the consulate of the country of residence;
- Copies of passports with a valid visa.
Greece is famous for its numerous churches and temples
And here it is important not to get confused when choosing a place for the ceremony
The most popular temples in Greece:
- Church of Panagia Faneromeni, located on the Halkidiki peninsula;
- Church of St. Irene, Ascension of the Lord on the island. Santorini;
- Church of Agios Konstantinos on the island. Crete;
- Monastery of St. Anastasia the Pattern Maker, which is located near the city of Thessaloniki.
Newlyweds will be pleased to know that the wedding does not have to take place within the premises of the temple. You can hold the ceremony on the colorful seashore or within the walls of an ancient fortress.
The ceremony lasts about an hour, the priest conducts the sacrament in Greek. After the wedding, the spouses are given a certificate confirming that the newlyweds have confirmed their feelings before God.
It is worth understanding that a wedding, like a wedding in Greece, is not a cheap pleasure. The average cost varies between 1000-2000 euros. And this is far from the limit, everything depends solely on your wishes.
A honeymoon trip to distant Greece is a secret wish that is destined to come true!
Do not deprive yourself of the opportunity to stroll along the endlessly romantic streets, plunging into the interesting and fascinating history of each city and island.
Mainland or islands: where to spend your honeymoon in Greece
The Greek state boasts a very, very favorable geographical location. Therefore, each newly-made family will be able to find their own place of paradise, where the honeymoon will become a real fairy tale, a fairy tale originally from Greece.
Where to spend your honeymoon:
- Athens is the capital of Greece. The city stands out for its amazing combination of architectural buildings. Medieval buildings and modern churches coexist here, creating an indescribable atmosphere. Athens will delight inquisitive newlyweds, offering the most interesting and unusual museums, ancient buildings and numerous temples. And shops with antiques will not allow you to leave without original souvenirs;
- The island of Crete is one of the favorite destinations for newlyweds. Love and romantic mood are in the air. On the island you can fully enjoy a modern holiday; every couple will definitely appreciate the decent level of service for the newlyweds. Impeccable service is complemented by unusual entertainment in the Greek style, and local customs will certainly enchant you with their color and brightness;
- The island of Rhodes is an ideal place for those who are looking not just for a wedding tour to Greece, but want to plunge into the world of historical values. The first thing that attracts the island is its history. Rhodes is the birthplace of the ancient sun god, the seventh wonder of the world, the Colossus of Rhodes, was located on its territory, and nowadays travelers simply cannot pass by without visiting the Rhodes Fortress. Another feature of Rhodes: its shores are washed by two seas at once - the Mediterranean and the Aegean. When else will you have the opportunity to plunge into two different seas in one trip? The island will pamper you with interesting stories and legends, immerse you in the old days and allow you to enjoy the benefits of the modern world;
- Mykonos Island is a place where unbridled fun never ends. Numerous cafes and restaurants, 24-hour discos and actively developing water sports will not let you get bored. Mykonos is an excellent choice for newlyweds who are not used to sitting still. The island fell in love not only with “mere mortals,” but also with show business stars. The only disadvantage of Mykonos is the cost of entertainment. This island is one of the most expensive in the Greek state.
Many people dream about Greece. Someone, sighing heavily, flips through the offers of tour operators and tempting photos on the Internet, someone organizes a wedding in the Greek style, and someone takes a risk - and goes to meet their dream!
Ancient traditions and rituals
If you want to have a wedding in the Greek style, you should familiarize yourself with the local traditions:
- the couple is usually escorted to the wedding altar by drummers, flutists, and torchbearers;
- the celebration takes place with noisy fun, songs, dances, as the Greeks believe that noise can scare away bad spirits;
- the newlyweds at the wedding are showered with money, dates, and nuts, which symbolizes wealth;
- newly-made spouses are showered with rice, which, according to the Greeks, makes the union strong and fertile;
- During the wedding dance, guests attach banknotes to the newlyweds, thereby wishing for prosperity in the marriage.
In modern times, lavish weddings are not so often held in Greece; now everything is more modest. Old Greek traditions can only be found in villages.
Where to go
Tourist life in Greece is concentrated on numerous islands. They are all great, but each is different from the others and has its own twist:

Mykonos
The pearl of European nightlife. Young people from all over the world vacation on the island. On the beach you can take pictures with pelicans, who don’t mind being photographed together and walk in crowds without fear of people.
Rhodes
A wonderful holiday destination; an island washed by two seas, the Aegean and the Mediterranean. Whoever chooses it as the destination for their honeymoon will be pleased. There are not many tourists here; you can relax calmly and quietly on the beaches, the best in Greece. It's nice to be among untouched nature. It is interesting to learn the history of the island, see the many sights and walk up the stairs to the ancient Acropolis. There is also a more prosaic reason to choose Rhodes for a holiday - the cost of living here is lower than on other islands.
Syros
A small, beautiful island in Greece, ignored by most tourists. And newlyweds often choose it for their honeymoon. In the city of Ermoupolis there is a hotel with a luxs room for newlyweds. Before moving in, it is decorated with fresh flowers and other wedding accessories so that the residents are imbued with romance and love. Near the hotel there is everything necessary for a vacation for young couples
Corfu
This island will be of interest to readers of the works of the English writer Jareld Darell. In the thirties of the last century, he lived on it with his mother and two brothers. In his books, the writer described in detail the appearance of the island and life on it at that time. It will be interesting to compare the past and present of the island.
Crete
The largest island. To have time to learn its history, see the sights, and visit remote places of the island, it is worth renting a car. Then you will have time to do everything, and your vacation impressions will be more varied.
You can spend your entire vacation on the chosen island. Or maybe it would be more interesting to create a route to visit different islands and different cities. Fidgets will like the second option more. From each island it is easy to get to the mainland or another island.
The most beloved cities and places of Greece by tourists: Athens, Chalkidiki, Sparta, Peloponnese, Thessaloniki.
Hotels, cuisine, entertainment
Greek hotels do not have “stars”, but categories: deluxes (5*); A, B, C – 4*, 3*, 2* – respectively. The level of service in all hotels is high, everything is clean and comfortable. Prices are lower than in other countries, and the necessary amenities of civilization are available everywhere. For their honeymoon, newlyweds choose luxurious and high-quality hotels of categories A and B with luxs rooms for newlyweds.
In hotels you can not just eat, but enjoy Greek cuisine. The hotel's chefs use the best products: freshly caught fish, fruits, vegetables, all kinds of cheeses. For the unusual aroma of Greek dishes, specially selected spices are used. This makes for a light, flavorful and healthy meal. The climate of Greece allows for the cultivation of a large number of different fruits and therefore not a single meal is served without an abundance of fruits.
Many islands have nightclubs and discos. The Greeks are very fond of dances, any kind, but they prefer their folk ones. At discos you can party all night long.
For gambling lovers, there are nine casinos in different regions of Greece. It is not easy to get into them - there is face control and a dress code.
A huge selection of outdoor activities: mountaineering in the mountains; at sea: surfing, diving, rafting (equipment can be rented), boat trips; on land - walking among nature and among ancient monuments, bus and car trips and excursions.
Photos and videos in the article confirm that a honeymoon in Greece leaves unforgettable impressions and memories that are shared with friends and relatives for a long time.
Menu
There should be an abundance of fruits and vegetables on the table - the Greeks adore them. The menu consists of vegetable salads, appetizers, various types of cheeses and hot dishes with spices.
At the wedding feast the following are required:

- beautiful wedding loaf ;
- among alcoholic drinks, orange liqueur, red wines, and ouzo (a drink reminiscent of absinthe) are preferable.
When served, drinks will look impressive in painted jugs. Pour them into glass glasses or metal cups.
Cake
The main decoration of the table can be made in the form of an elegant amphora or an ancient temple with columns - then the cake will fit perfectly into the overall style. The dessert is decorated with a cream drapery, an imitation of the classic ancient Greek ornament - meanders.
Greek cake is decorated with flowers, olives, leaves, grapevines, laurel branches. It certainly has several tiers and is covered with white icing or white whipped cream.
