A wedding is an important event for newlyweds and their loved ones. Therefore, young people pay attention to various little things, and even folk signs. Our ancestors believed that the day of the week when the union was concluded would influence family life in the future.
Modern people try to arrange a wedding on Friday or Saturday to gather all their relatives and friends. But are these days suitable for getting married or are we sacrificing family happiness for the sake of convenience?
Wedding calendar or when is the best time to get married
Marriages are made in heaven... Everything has its reasons - people don’t meet and get married by chance.
Many couples are concerned with the question: “When is the best time to get married?” or “When is the best time to get married?” The correct choice of date for marriage plays a very important role in the life of the newlyweds. Of course, the date of the wedding, wedding or wedding day is not the key to a happy married life, but choosing a good date for the wedding ceremony increases the chances of creating a prosperous marriage and long-lasting marital relationships.
Many couples even order a personal horoscope for themselves to determine the most suitable date for marriage and wedding. In general, we can say that the main criteria for choosing a wedding date are: year, time of year, month and day of such an important event in the lives of both people - the future spouses.
Folk signs
Perhaps a wedding is a holiday that is shrouded in secrets and superstitions more than others. Folk signs recommend that future spouses pay attention to the wedding month. The most successful months are February, June, August, November and December.
According to the popular wedding calendar, the happiest days of marriage are the seventh and twelfth, but the number 13, on the contrary, should be avoided. There is a popular belief that if the wedding took place on an even day, then the couple’s first child will be a boy, and if on an odd day, then the first child will be a girl.
What year is best to get married?
There is an opinion that if you celebrate your wedding on a leap year, it means dooming your marriage to collapse. Many people believe that leap years are unlucky. But if you look at history, you can see a completely opposite picture.
Do you think that in leap years young people did not get married, the matchmakers rested and there was no pre-wedding bustle in the brides' houses? There is one interesting feature: during a leap year... girls went to get married. It turns out that leap year was the year of brides who could choose their own groom! Moreover, the bride could be refused matchmaking only in the most rare and justified cases. So if your loved one is delaying the engagement and wedding, girls, don’t get confused and, in accordance with a long-standing tradition, feel free to propose your hand and heart to your betrothed.
Ivan Kupala
Among the Slavs, the holiday of Ivan Kupala fell on the longest day of summer, when Yarilo is reborn and... marries. According to the observations of the famous Russian ethnographer Ivan Mikhailovich Snegirev, in some provinces wedding ceremonies were held during mass festivities on the day of the summer solstice. On them, Yarila’s doll married his bride (also a doll or a young birch tree).
The symbolism and ritual of the holiday are closely related to the wedding: the choice of the betrothed, purification by jumping over the fire, the exchange of woven wreaths. There is no confirmation of the judgment, but it is likely that our distant ancestors held weddings on Ivan Kupala.
In the Christian era, weddings on Ivan Kupala were rarely scheduled, because in the heat of field work there was simply no energy and time for entertainment. Such a wedding could only take place due to practical considerations: for example, the family urgently needed additional hands to help with the harvest.
After the revolution, Ivan Kupala moved two weeks, to July 7th. And today this date is perfect for a wedding celebration.
Which month is better to get married or which month is better to get married?
There are many legends and beliefs in which month of the year the concluded union will be stronger, and in which month it is not recommended to get married. Such signs are more interesting from the point of view of folklore.
- So, it is not recommended to get married in January.
- February is considered a favorable month for marriage.
- A bride getting married in March will have to live on someone else's side.
- April, which is changeable in weather, promises the same fickle and changeable happiness.
- According to popular belief, those who get married in May risk being deceived by their other half.
- June is the ideal month for a wedding; for those who tie the knot in June, the honeymoon will last a lifetime.
- A wedding in July will bring both happy and not so pleasant moments into the life of a new family.
- For a girl who gets married in August, her husband will be a friend and lover for life.
- Those getting married in September will be united in a strong union for life.
- For the young people who united their fate in October, life will be difficult and difficult.
- November promises a rich life for the young.
- December is a wonderful time for marriage - it promises that you will love each other more and more.
In our modern world, these signs are not very reliable and are more interesting from the point of view of getting to know folklore. In the old days, most weddings took place in late summer and autumn. Our ancestors loved to have weddings during the harvest months, because at this time the feast was more plentiful and the treats more varied.
In addition, it was considered good luck to get married during the fertile months. Nowadays, many couples also prefer to get married in the summer and early autumn: the table can be varied with all kinds of seasonal fruits, fresh herbs and vegetables, the wedding celebration can be held outdoors, and the bride can choose a light and elegant dress.
The new Western tradition of honeymoon travel is also best realized under the rays of the warm summer sun. Of course, there are some inconveniences in such a celebration: at this time, wedding salons are crowded, many cafes and restaurants are booked literally every day, wedding planners and photographers work seven days a week, and some guests cannot come because they went on vacation at that time.
If you want to get married during the colder months and make your wedding a memorable one, consider a destination wedding . In this case, a wedding in the Dominican Republic is the best option. The wedding ceremony can take place in any month of the year. The bride and groom can choose a comfortable summer dress and suit. Beautiful weather all year round, azure ocean, white-topped waves, clean sand – isn’t this the kind of original and memorable wedding you’ve dreamed of?
Why is it important to choose the right wedding date?
Did you know that people become closest to each other not just because they wanted to? Everything was decided a long time ago for each of us. In heaven. This opinion is held not only by white magicians, psychics and astrologers. If you are one of the adherents of theories about the meaning of the wedding date, try not to be distracted and read the article to the end - it will be more interesting further.
By the way, today many people are planning a celebration on the same dates - for example, 09.09.09 or 07.07.07. At the same time, they don’t even think about what such a combination will mean for their future married life. However, this is not just a consonant number series, but also dates that bring prosperity. It is no secret that three sevens foretell good luck, luck and material wealth, and the eight, as a sign of infinity, promises a long family life. The main thing is to truly believe in it. Then everything will be exactly the way you want.
On what day of the week is it better to get married?
- According to ancient signs, a wedding held on Monday will bring wealth and joy to the newlyweds’ home.
- Wedding on Tuesday - the newlyweds will enjoy good health.
- Wednesday has always been considered a very lucky day to get married.
- Thursday may bring difficulties in family life.
- Those getting married on Friday will have to go through many tests.
- The union concluded on Saturday will be strong only when the young people are ready to sacrifice everything for the sake of their family.
Unfavorable time for weddings
As you understand, the year here practically does not matter.
So straight to the months.
- April. It will not be very lucky to register your marriage in April - the changeability of the weather of this month will bring the same seasonal instability to your marriage, and you will be in constant tension.
- May is a wonderful spring month, but not for marriage. It promises you deception on the part of your significant other, which can lead to other unpleasant consequences.
- For some reason, October also does not want to please us with pleasant predictions. A wedding in October is a difficult family life (although for whom is it simple?)
- January. Without further explanation, it is simply not recommended for marriage.
Not very favorable days of the week to get married:
- Thursday, oddly enough, promises a lot of difficulties for the couple.
- Friday suggests great challenges in family life.
If you are very religious, then pay attention to when you should not schedule a wedding due to church regulations:
- Tuesday Thursday Saturday. These days you simply won't get married.
- During Lent
- On Peter's Fast (two weeks after Trinity)
- August 14 to 27 (Assumption Fast)
- From November 28 to January 7 (Nativity Fast)
- And also on Christmastide, Christmas Eve and Epiphany Day (January 8-19)
- On the week of Maslenitsa. There was even a saying: “To get married on Maslenitsa means to be related to misfortune.”
When is the best time to get married according to the Orthodox calendar?
Weddings in the Orthodox Church do not take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. According to the existing canonical rules, it is not allowed to get married on the eve of the twelve, temple and great holidays, during the great, Peter the Great, Dormition and Nativity fasts, during Christmastide from January 7 to 20, during Shrovetide, starting from Meat week and also during Easter week, on the eve and on the days of the beheading of John the Baptist (August 29) and the erection of the Holy Cross (September 14). Judging by statistics, couples married in church rarely break up. According to the clergy, this happens because their marriage is made in heaven...
To Krasnaya Gorka
Ethnographic records confirm that the most favorable day for a pagan wedding was Sunday, and the best time was spring.
From time immemorial, Krasnaya Gorka, a holiday in honor of the beginning of spring that ends on Sunday, was considered almost the most successful time for a wedding. Among the pagan Slavs, the holiday week began on Yaril Veshny (later St. George’s Day), that is, April 22. Nowadays, Krasnaya Gorka is the first week after Easter, so the numbers change every year.
Our ancestors believed that those who got married on Krasnaya Gorka could automatically count on a cloudless and happy family life, because their patron was Yarilo himself, the god of fertility, sun, strength and life. However, with the adoption of Christianity, Krasnaya Gorka often coincided with Radunitsa - the time of remembrance of deceased ancestors, and in this case the festivities had to be postponed.
Today, on Krasnaya Gorka (in the Christian tradition it is called St. Thomas Week), there is a wedding boom every year. It is unlikely that lovers honor the traditions of their ancestors, although many people know the saying “Whoever marries on Krasnaya Gorka will never get married.” It’s just that many people no longer have enough patience, because there are not many opportunities to get married in winter or early spring. If you didn’t have time to choose a time before Maslenitsa, you will have to wait a little longer, because weddings are not held on Maslenitsa, the following Great Lent, Easter, and Bright Week.
What weddings are celebrated every year?
- During the first year of marriage, a green wedding is celebrated every month on the day of marriage.
- A calico wedding is celebrated on the anniversary of family life and on this day the newlyweds exchange calico handkerchiefs.
- On the 2nd anniversary of marriage, a paper wedding is celebrated. It is customary to give beautiful books, photo albums and paintings.
- A leather wedding is celebrated after 3 years of marriage. The family has become much stronger, but the relationship is not yet very established and flexible, like leather, products from which are usually given as gifts on this day.
- Wax wedding - 4 years together. There must be candles burning on the table.
- Wooden wedding - 5th anniversary of marriage. The tree symbolizes the strength of family relationships. On this day, it is customary to give spouses wooden dishes, spoons, boxes and all kinds of wooden products.
- 6 years of marriage - a cast iron wedding. Cast iron, despite its external strength, is a brittle metal; it can crack if struck. Likewise, family relationships, despite a rather long period of time, must be maintained.
- The copper wedding is celebrated 7 years after the wedding. Spouses exchange copper rings or coins - symbols of ringing happiness.
- Tin wedding - 8 years of marriage. On this anniversary, it is customary to give baking trays, trays, tin baking dishes, as well as kitchen utensils and household electrical appliances.
- 9 years of marriage - earthenware wedding. The best gift for spouses on this day will be earthenware and crystal products.
- Pink or tin wedding is celebrated on the 10th anniversary of marriage. On this day, it is customary to give pink roses, which will remind the newlyweds of their wedding day and of love, which is no longer afraid of thorns.
- The rather long list of wedding anniversaries ends with an oak wedding - 80 years of marriage. The long-lived tree in this case symbolizes the eternity of love.
Of course, it is very important to choose the year, month, date and day of the week for the wedding . But we must not forget that the formula for a happy marriage is mutual love and harmony in all aspects of family life: intellectual, spiritual and sexual.
All that remains is to agree with the registry office
So, it seems that everything has been decided - the month has been chosen, a beautiful date for the wedding has been determined. But in the process of preparing for the celebration, there is always a risk of force majeure circumstances that force you to change the cherished date.
If the bride and groom have not yet applied to the registry office to submit an application, but have only booked the day they need, then everything is simpler - the reservation is transferred to those days where there are still free places. Otherwise, you will have to write the application again. If it has already been submitted, the date can be changed, but it is important to take into account that no more than 60 days should pass from the moment the application is submitted until the approximate day of the ceremonial painting. If the ceremony is postponed several months in advance, the wedding will simply have to be canceled, and later, when the deadline approaches (2 months before the wedding), you will need to go and submit an application again.
Couples who would like to formalize their relationship earlier than the planned date often have difficulties with the queue. In the registry offices, the time is usually scheduled minute by minute, and if there is no free “window”, there is always a way out - this is on-site registration.
The wedding date is of significant importance for a young couple. To choose a suitable day, you can consult an astrologer or numerologist. But at the same time, no specialist can give any guarantee that the spouses will live a long and happy life together. The date of the wedding celebration alone is not enough, because everything depends on the newlyweds themselves. If their relationship is built on mutual love and respect for each other, this union is doomed to a successful long-term existence. It is fundamentally important that lovers, in addition to feelings, have common interests, views and plans for the future. If there is no mutual understanding and love in a marriage, then no date or correctly chosen day of the week will save it.
The best periods for matchmaking
Autumn
After the harvest and long work, it's time to get married and have a wedding! A good period for this will begin on August 28 and will continue right up until the beginning of the Nativity Fast.

Winter
The favorable period will begin after the Nativity of Christ and before Maslenitsa. Weddings played after Christmas will definitely be strong and prosperous. This is the beginning of the New Year, and consider a new family to be born.
