Delicious menu for matchmaking - what to cook for the feast

Since ancient times, matchmaking has been of great importance for the beginning of the family life of young people. How the matchmaking process takes place on the part of the bride, what needs to be said and how to prepare, these are some of the questions that come to mind when preparing for this event. In fact, now matchmaking is not given as much importance as our ancestors did. However, some traditions and features of this ritual have reached us.

What is being prepared for matchmaking - menu ideas

Despite the fact that over the course of life many customs and traditions are forgotten and become unnecessary, a ritual such as matchmaking remains in demand to this day. Only after this they begin to prepare for the wedding party. At matchmaking, future relatives get to know each other, and the young couple receives a blessing for marriage.
All pressing issues regarding the organization of the celebration are resolved at the festive table. The groom should come to the engagement party with gifts. An unexpected addition to the ring and bouquet of flowers for the bride can be a festive matchmaking cake, as in the photo.

Modern matchmaking

It is significantly different from the ritual that took place before. Nowadays, few people prepare texts in verse, and the visit itself in most cases ends with the agreement of the parties.

You can go to matchmaking with the groom's parents either independently or by inviting relatives or professional matchmakers. Male matchmakers must be married, but female matchmakers must be unmarried.

How to properly match the bride to the groom's parents?

  1. First, you need to discuss in advance a date and time for the visit that is convenient for the bride’s parents.
  2. The guy must definitely give the girl, her mother and sisters flowers.
  3. The boy's parents are preparing a gift for the girl's father and mother. Most often they give cigars, wine, elite alcohol, books, beautiful dishes, decorative items, and sweets. There is nothing wrong if the guy asks the girl in advance what gift to give her parents.

The groom's mother can give her future daughter-in-law some expensive gift. For example, jewelry.

How a feast should take place - tips

Matchmaking is a very exciting, but at the same time a pleasant event in the life of every girl who dreams of marriage.

In order for everything to go smoothly and without any annoying hiccups, it is imperative to agree on the date of the event. If the matchmakers show up without warning out of the blue, the bride’s parents are unlikely to like it. Still, it is better to conduct negotiations at a festively laid table with abundant treats than to embarrass future relatives with an unexpected visit, taking them by surprise.

The first rule of successful matchmaking is to agree in advance on the date and time of the conspiracy. This decision will help the girl’s family prepare in advance and meet the matchmakers without losing face. The bride should be directly involved in preparing dishes for the festive feast.

It will be very useful to find out what favorite dishes the groom’s parents have and pamper them with these dishes, earning respect and gratitude from future in-laws by showing how she knows how to cook. As a rule, the groom's mother is always very jealous about what hands her adored son will fall into.

Therefore, a plentiful treat and respectful attitude on the part of the daughter-in-law will be a huge plus and will show her thriftiness and decent upbringing.

What are the responsibilities of the bride during matchmaking:

  • preparing and beautifully serving festive dishes (to do this, just look at the corresponding pictures on the Internet);
  • a virtuous attitude towards both the groom’s relatives and members of one’s own family;
  • do not express dissatisfaction with the organization of the wedding; if you don’t like something in the decision of the older generation, it is better to wait for permission and correctly enter your wishes regarding the celebration;
  • keep the table in order, promptly changing dirty, empty dishes, replenishing carafes of drinks and plates of snacks;
  • do not show excessive tenderness towards the groom - kisses and hugs are not appropriate in this case.

It is not customary to invite many guests to matchmaking; the tradition of celebrating this event as magnificently as a wedding has long been a thing of the past.

Today, the presence of parents on both sides, the heroes of the occasion, as well as their godparents is sufficient. Treating matchmakers simply must be generous with both snacks and alcohol.

This has been the custom since ancient times; it speaks of respect for future relatives. When guests arrive, the table already has plates with cut meats and vegetables, vases with fruit, saucers with a variety of canapés, and an assortment of pickles. For drinks, fruit drinks and juices are welcome; for strong drinks, champagne is a must, wine, vodka, etc.

After the main words have been spoken by the matchmakers and consent has been received from the bride’s parents, they begin the meal. The bride, with the help of her mother, serves hot meat dishes. Guests should note her efforts by praising the hostess.

A girl should modestly accept the praise of her future relatives.

The role of the bride and groom in the matchmaking ritual

Previously, in Russia, a young man often first decided to start a family, and only after that chose the lucky one. It was not uncommon for a potential bride to be unprepared for the happiness that befell her until the day of matchmaking.

In the matchmaking ritual on the part of the bride, the girl’s role was passive - she could sit in her room all evening without showing herself to the groom. The matchmakers negotiated with the parents, looked at and assessed the bride's dowry. A girl could only be called to demonstrate her skills in housekeeping, cleaning, and cooking. The bride had to submit meekly, silently show her skills and again retire to the waiting room.

In the dowry chest, the groom must have seen tablecloths, towels, and napkins made by the skillful hands of his chosen one for arranging their future life together. On the evening of the matchmaking, the girl could also be asked to demonstrate how she sews, embroiders, sweeps floors or cooks, in order to make sure that she really knows how to do all this and that her parents do not embellish her merits. At the same time, the parents were obliged to praise their daughter, admire the work done and, looking ahead, describe to the groom how good it would be for him to live with such a thrifty wife. The groom, based on the girl’s external data and her abilities, concluded whether she was suitable for him as a wife or not. The latter happened rarely, but if the girl’s family was unable to adequately present the goods during the matchmaking, then the groom could well back down, for this there was a special system of signs - he turned away from the food and drink offered, could demonstrate in every possible way that he was being treated tastelessly and did not finish the offered drinks.

With a successful combination of circumstances and mutual sympathy of all matchmaking participants, at the end of the event, the bride’s parents gave their consent to the wedding, and from now on the guy and girl became the bride and groom. Nowadays, matchmaking is not a very common phenomenon. Parents are presented with a fait accompli, and then all future relatives are shown one by one to each other in different combinations. The most common matchmaking scenario on the part of the bride is when first the groom comes to visit the bride’s parents, then the bride goes to visit the groom’s parents, and only then the parents get to know each other and begin to discuss organizational wedding issues. If you want to add an element of tradition to the dating procedure, the main thing is not to overdo it.

What dishes to cook - ideas

After all, matchmaking is a holiday for all participants in the event, so you definitely need to think through the menu for the feast and prepare dishes that are more suitable for the occasion. Dishes should be prepared easily, simply and quickly enough. Otherwise, at the time of the holiday, the receiving party will be exhausted from household chores and everything that happens will no longer be a joy.

Example menu for matchmaking:

  1. Meat, cheese, fish and vegetable slices.
  2. Sandwiches with caviar.
  3. Pickle canapes.
  4. Fruit plate.
  5. Pots with meat, mushrooms and potatoes under a cheese crust.
  6. Meat nests with corn, bell pepper and green peas.
  7. Juicy rolls of minced pork and bacon, with mustard sauce.

Recipe for “Meat Nests”:

  • 1 kg of pork meat with fat;
  • 1 onion;
  • 1 slice of white bread;
  • ½ tbsp milk;
  • 1 potato;
  • 1 egg.

The pork is cut into pieces and passed through a meat grinder. In the same way, a loaf soaked in milk, peeled potatoes, and onions are crushed. An egg is driven into the resulting mass, salt, pepper and other spices are added to taste. After which everything is thoroughly kneaded until smooth.

Cutlets are formed from the minced meat, making indentations in the middle. Place meat nests on a greased baking sheet, placing ½ tsp in the center. green peas, corn and diced red bell pepper.

By placing them in a preheated oven for 1–1.5 hours, you get delicious, juicy and beautiful cutlets for the holiday.

For snack canapés you will need:

  • pickled mushrooms, ideally it is better to take small mushrooms;
  • Cherry tomatoes;
  • canned ears of young corn.

Young corn, a tomato and a champignon cap are placed in random order on special skewers.

An excellent option for a light and savory snack.

How to dress for matchmakers

The clothes of matchmakers in the past were neat and elegant, but in general they differed little from everyday ones. Men wore an embroidered shirt and the best boots, women wore light makeup and wore a kokoshnik instead of a scarf. A distinctive feature of the matchmakers were embroidered towels tied over the shoulder. The bride and groom were supposed to dress smartly in everything new.

Today, relatives and young people must decide for themselves whether they will wear traditional costumes or not. If the matchmakers don’t mind, then it’s acceptable if only they wear the suits. In fact, it will be enough to tie the ribbon over your regular clothes.

Matchmaking is an important stage of preparation for a wedding

Previously, marriage between young people was considered a sacred union.

This moment was one of the most important in life, so many traditions and rituals are associated with it.

Now marriage has already lost its former power. Couples decide for themselves whether to get married or not. Nobody is forcing them to get married.

At the same time, long-standing traditions and customs are often not respected, and some are completely forgotten by modern society.

But no one forbids carrying out an interesting ritual, for example, matchmaking, according to old customs, but with a modern interpretation.

Nuances of modern matchmaking

In the modern world, the ceremony of matchmaking on the part of the groom is needed only to achieve a specific goal - to please the bride’s parents. If they remain dissatisfied and refuse, you should not be upset - persistence is important in this matter, matchmaking can be repeated

.

Perhaps over time, parents will see how much you want to be with their daughter, will appreciate you and agree. Even the great Pushkin asked Natalya Goncharova’s hand in marriage from her mother several times until he obtained permission to marry.

Some numbers of the month are considered unlucky for matchmaking - 3, 5 and 7. And the number 8, on the contrary, is reputed to bring family well-being.

Some advice for the groom and his matchmakers

  • Drink alcohol in moderation, or better yet, purely symbolically.
  • Do not kiss or hug the bride in front of your parents.
  • Try to communicate with all the bride’s relatives, not just the parents. To provoke “multilateral communication”, to involve even the most silent of those present in the conversation.
  • Try to resolve fundamental issues regarding the future wedding, the number of guests, cost planning and other important details at the table in a relaxed atmosphere. Thus, relatives on both sides will be initially involved in the process, which is especially important if they intend to invest in the upcoming celebration.
  • In matters relating to the wedding, it is advisable to seek advice from representatives of the oldest generation and listen to their opinion, thus showing them maximum respect.

Nowadays, the ceremony has been significantly simplified and takes place in a free environment. This is a holiday that connects two people and those who are happy about their happiness.

Matchmaking will create warm relationships

between families who have decided to become related and will become one of the most cherished memories of life. After the matchmaking ceremony is successfully completed, you can set the day of the engagement, which traditionally takes place even more solemnly.

In the modern world, a guy and a girl most often independently decide to tie the knot. Nevertheless, many people want to conduct a classic matchmaking on the part of the groom. How is the ritual performed these days? What should the traditional matchmaking of a bride be like among Russians? We answer all questions.

What does the groom need to know?

If you decide to conduct matchmaking, you need to discuss the date of the ceremony in advance. It is unlikely that the bride's parents will be happy if the matchmakers and the groom suddenly come to them. How the ceremony will go depends on proper organization and preparation.

Ancestors believed that the date of matchmaking should be chosen especially carefully, since the future of the lovers depended on it. Previously, people never got married on the 13th, as it promised failure and separation for the spouses.

The 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th of any month were considered good days for the ritual. It is better to come with matchmakers to the bride on weekends.

Tuesday and Thursday are also considered prosperous days. It is better not to plan an important event for the rest of the days.

Since most of the attention during the ceremony is focused on the groom, he should be well prepared for the upcoming meeting with his beloved’s parents. Knowing the features of modern matchmaking, you will be able to conduct the ceremony at the highest level.

Matchmaking traditions

In Rus', matchmaking was preceded by a bridesmaid ceremony, during which the groom and his relatives - an older brother, uncle or godfather - came to the bride's house. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate the girl and her talents. If the groom liked her, soon matchmakers were sent to her house.

They were very careful about choosing the day for matchmaking. We didn’t go to the bride’s house on the thirteenth, on Wednesdays and Fridays. Most often they got married on the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary - October 14th.

The groom had to rush to the girl’s house as soon as possible in order to avoid damage and the evil eye, but the matchmakers entered the house only after the third invitation. Guests in the house were seated in a special way, which demonstrated their intentions. The conversation started at first about something distant and only gradually got down to business.

According to the rules of matchmaking, the girl should have been silent and, with her back turned to the guests, raked out the ash from the stove. In order to demonstrate her family's wealth and her beauty, she could change her outfit about five times.

The matchmakers could examine the girl very meticulously in order to find flaws and reduce the ransom. If the groom did not like the bride, he only put the glass presented to him to his lips and left it full. If the girl was to his liking, he drank the glass to the bottom. The girl, in turn, could bring a pumpkin to the disgruntled groom.

The bride's parents negotiated, and the father made the decision whether to marry her to this groom or not. Matchmakers could come to the house more than once and be refused. At this time, the girl's father was choosing the most suitable match for his daughter.

Groom's tasks

The future spouse should solve several important problems:

Find matchmakers. Relatives, godparents, and friends can act as matchmakers, although not every person can cope with this task. Matchmakers must convincingly praise the groom, reveal all his best sides and qualities, and therefore must be cheerful, good-natured, and most importantly, have a loose tongue. If possible, choose experienced matchmakers.

Prepare presents for parents. A guy is not supposed to go to matchmaking without gifts, so you should take care of your purchases in advance. You can present flowers to your mother and future wife, and alcohol or an accessory to your father. It is better to first find out about the tastes of your parents and their preferences in order to avoid an unpleasant incident. Matchmakers also take fruits, sweets and other treats to demonstrate the groom's generosity and wealth.

Choose a suitable look. A classic suit would be an excellent option, but if the ceremony will take place according to a certain scenario, then the outfit must be chosen in accordance with it. In this case, matchmakers should have themed costumes.

At matchmaking, the groom often only meets his beloved’s parents. The newlyweds receive a blessing, so it is important that everything goes perfectly.

In order not to lose face, you need to take into account all the details and carefully prepare for the event.

Customs

It has long been the custom that each holiday has its own rituals. A wedding is the most tradition-filled event. One of the indispensable rituals of a wedding is matchmaking on the part of the groom, and it is advisable to observe all the actions associated with it.

What must be on the table

In Rus', a homemade tincture was specially prepared for matchmaking, although this was the responsibility of the bride’s family. Bonding family ties with a couple of glasses of tincture is considered mandatory. But if the groom does not drink on principle, then when explaining his position there is nothing wrong with refusing.

There should also be sweets and honey on the table so that parents can be sure that after tasting the sweet treat, the future son-in-law will never say a rude word to them.

Traditionally, round bread or loaf is baked for matchmaking.

If a girl agrees to get married, she must cut the bread presented to her into four equal pieces.

Tests for lovers

In order for the groom to feel welcome in the future, he needs to hammer a nail on the threshold of the room. And the bride will have to pass tests (which are prepared in advance).

In the old days, people could be asked to dance, answer questions, or sweep the floor to check how good a housewife the future wife was. With modern matchmaking, you can come up with fun challenge games for the bride, and the guests and groom will help her in this difficult task.

How to make an offer

Permission to marry your daughter is the most important moment of matchmaking. This is why everything is started.

The groom should propose to the girl by addressing his parents

. He briefly talks about his feelings for his beloved, that he is ready to protect his family, to be a faithful, kind husband.

When expressing consent, the girl's father must shake hands with the groom. Then the groom can give the bride a symbolic gift - a ring.

Putting a ring on the bride's finger is also an old beautiful tradition.

What does the bride need to know?

Not only the future spouse with the matchmakers, but also the bride’s family must responsibly prepare for the ceremony. After all, both parties must try, and therefore it will not be superfluous to learn the traditions of modern matchmaking.

The bride should think about the image. Prepare your outfit in advance. It should be moderately restrained and modest, without various prints and flashy decorations. You should also avoid wearing bright makeup. At matchmaking, you need to make a good impression on your parents, especially if this is your first meeting.

And now the long-standing tradition of preparing the bride’s dowry has been preserved, regardless of whether the newlyweds plan to live in the groom’s house or separately. The dowry of a modern bride is very different from the one prepared by our ancestors. There are no woven clothes or towels in it. A modern dowry may consist of:

blankets, pillows, beds, rugs;

towels, napkins and other textiles;

various household appliances - from a blender to a stove;

The selection depends on the capabilities of the parents and their wishes. In any case, the dowry is laid out in a visible place so that the matchmakers can see the bride’s wealth and be able to assess its size.

What to give to the groom's parents?

The bride should take care to please her future father-in-law and mother-in-law. Gifts are good for these purposes. Previously, symbolic gifts were given, for example, a red scarf was presented to the mother-in-law.

Now there is no need to observe these traditions; you can choose modern gifts, but first it is better to find out about the tastes of the parents of your future spouse.

Holiday menu

For the matchmakers and the groom's parents, you need to prepare treats in advance. The future wife must prepare delicacies for the matchmakers. Her participation in the process is mandatory, as this shows her thriftiness.

Matchmaking by the bride in our time

First, the parents of the bride and groom talk to each other, and if everything suits them, they ask to see the bride. The girl should dress modestly but beautifully. Daytime makeup, modest but tasteful clothes, a neat, discreet manicure, all this will make the girl’s image appropriate and attractive.

Next, matchmakers can ask the bride to show her skills, for example, to prepare a meal from ingredients that are on hand in a short time.

Then comes the main moment of the whole event, when the matchmakers exchange opinions about the bride and groom and decide whether the wedding will take place.

If everyone is happy with everything, then the matchmaking continues. Issues related to the upcoming wedding are discussed at the table. At the same time, the bride can present gifts to the groom's parents.

Matchmaking is, in essence, the official consent of the bride and groom, as well as their families, to enter into marriage. There is no universal scenario or rules for performing this ritual, since even in ancient times, matchmaking traditions differed greatly not only in different countries, but also in different regions of Rus'. In this article we will look at the main features, current echoes of past traditions and interesting ideas regarding matchmaking.

Matchmaking today

Modern matchmaking in most cases is simple and prosaic, especially in urban areas. Matchmakers, whose roles are most often played by the groom's closest relatives, rarely burden themselves with learning long poems and theatrical performances (except for the common phrase: “you have a product, we have a merchant”). However, certain etiquette is still observed. So, upon arrival at the bride’s house, the groom always gives the women flowers (if the future wife has grandmothers or sisters, they will also be pleased to receive a bouquet along with the bride and her mother).

They bring gifts with them, most often these are: sweets, fruit baskets, alcohol. In addition, the groom (or his mother) can give the bride some expensive gift, for example, jewelry or something significant for his family. Some special gifts can be presented to the bride's parents. It is better to discuss what to give to your future father-in-law and mother-in-law in advance with the bride - she probably knows their preferences. Alternatively, it could be: a talisman for the home, a photo album (with a promise to fill it soon with photographs of grandchildren), a beautiful carved candle (as a symbol of light and warmth), etc. After the welcoming speeches, everyone goes to the table, where they discuss in detail the subject of the meeting - the wedding of the newlyweds.

What words to say during matchmaking

While the bride's relatives can act impromptu, the groom's matchmakers will have to prepare some kind of opening speech. The essence of this speech usually boils down to the following: we know that a beautiful girl lives here, we have a smart/generous/wealthy groom for her, who, moreover, is endlessly in love with her, do you agree to put her in his reliable hands ? This traditional preamble can be formulated in either prose or verse. Here are some short poetic options:

We brought you a great guy! The merchant is excellent for your product! Dressed to the nines - looks decent, has its own corner and personal transport. There is money - not poor, easy character - character is not harmful. How's it going with your fiancee? Are you ready for marriage yet?

We came to your house for a reason. One dream brought us - to give away a child to a happy marriage, and to hug our grandchildren as soon as possible. And if our thoughts are similar, Let's put everything aside, So that we can discuss the wedding together And open the way to happiness for the children.

You have one girl: Modest, beautiful, young. We have a groom who is a match for her: He has the intelligence to become. We propose to connect their two destinies into one thread.

Hello, nice family! Meet a prominent man. We will immediately say without concealment - He is a glorious groom, rank after rank! And lead you to the altar He desires your maiden.

We were lucky to find out that your product is expensive. Good in everything, give or take. Our merchant is golden. Just look for something like this! Handsome, smart, daring. He'll make a great husband and son-in-law! So give us a straight answer - Are you ready to give away the goods?

We have come to your glorious home With a first-class groom! Give it a little time - we’ll tell you everything about it.

Scenarios of modern matchmaking

We will not present matchmaking scenarios in verse (there are quite a few of them on the Internet). Let us note only the key stages of this ritual. It all starts with the opening speech of the matchmakers (mentioned above). Further, matchmakers may ask the bride to perform a number of comic tasks to ensure that she will be a thrifty wife. For example, answer the following questions:

- What kind of water will you pour instant noodles for your husband: hot or warm? (The correct answer is none, I will feed him delicious, homemade food); — When you wash a pan, do you scrub more inside or outside? (The correct answer is that I wash equally well on all sides); — At what temperature will you wash woolen items? (The correct answer is slightly warm, so as not to shrink); — List the ingredients from which you will cook borscht. etc.

The bride's relatives, in turn, can prepare a number of tasks or questions for the groom. For example:

— The groom is asked to choose a city: Arkhangelsk, Yaroslavl or Khabarovsk (these are the cities depicted on banknotes of 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles). After this, you can joke about the future earnings of the groom - praise him or, on the contrary, advise him to try harder. - Ask him to hammer a nail into a board, but give him a nail with a bent leg, explaining that in family life not everything is so simple and he will need to be able to cope with various difficulties. — To check how safe it will be for the bride to travel with the groom in the car, you can ask a series of automotive questions about traffic rules or ask to decipher some rare signs. — Answer a number of “male” questions. What tool is used to make a hole in a concrete wall (perforator)? How can you cut the wire with pliers or pliers (pliers)? And so on.

At some point, the hosts invite guests to the table. There, both families finally shake hands and begin to substantively discuss the wedding and the future life of the young people. In villages, this joint feast is called “binge” (not to be confused with binge drinking in the well-known sense).

An important stage of matchmaking is the formal appeal of the groom to the bride's parents with a request to give their daughter in marriage to him. When this should be done (at the very beginning or during the feast) is not so important. And here there is no room for jokes and antics - this symbolic moment requires the most serious attitude.

Matchmaking traditions that have survived to this day

The ancient Slavs had a great variety of traditions and superstitions associated with matchmaking, some of which have successfully survived to this day. Whether you use them or not is up to you, but if there are older people in the family who are often supporters of “this is the way it is,” it may be worth including something from the following in the “event” program.

Particular importance in wedding rituals, including matchmaking, was given to the loaf. This tradition dates back to pagan times.

The shape and color of the loaf symbolized the sun, and the Sun God was especially revered by the Slavs. Matchmakers always brought a loaf of bread with them to matchmaking. The bride had to cut it at the table and distribute it to everyone present as a sign of consent to the marriage; first, the parents were treated to it. For a marriage to be successful, every last bite had to be eaten. At modern matchmaking, a loaf is also often present. If you do not have the opportunity to purchase a real loaf, you can simply buy round bread (a salt shaker is not necessary).

The second traditional thing was the towel. Different Slavic peoples used towels in different ways during matchmaking: as gifts from the bride to future relatives, they were tied on the matchmakers’ chests as a sign of consent, they were tied to the matchmaker’s hands, etc. Today you can simply present the loaf on a towel, and then put it in a safe place - it can be used later when blessing your parents and other rituals. An item with such a symbolic history will certainly become a family heirloom in the future.

Previously, during matchmaking, the bride never went out to meet the matchmakers. Until a certain point, she was in a locked room. This rule can be followed today - you must agree, there is some intrigue in this.

Even if the groom satisfied the bride's parents in everything, they never gave their consent from the threshold. The rules of decency required them to bide their time and “raise the price” for their goods. Perhaps, similar behavior would be useful today, so that it doesn’t turn out like in that joke when the wife instructed her husband before the groom’s arrival: “Vasya, just don’t immediately throw yourself on his neck with the words “You are our Savior!”

After the bride appeared in front of the guests, the stage of the so-called bridegroom began. The bride was asked to walk around, do some simple actions, and pour tea for everyone. This was necessary to identify the girl’s physical flaws. Today, of course, times are different and matchmakers have most likely seen the groom’s chosen one more than once. However, the bride should be active at the table and take care of the guests - this will earn the respect of future relatives.

Having given his consent to the marriage, the bride's father placed his daughter's hand in the hand of the future husband and spoke parting words. He asked the groom to protect and take care of the bride. This sentimental moment can easily be recreated today. Perhaps this will make the groom feel additional responsibility as he enters a new stage of his life.

In conclusion, some useful tips:

1. You can ask one of your relatives to film the matchmaking with a camera or video camera. Often such things are thought about too late, and the family archive is deprived of valuable personnel.

2. Take the time and bake something for the holiday table with your own hands. Homemade baking helps create a warm family environment.

3. Prepare a couple of interesting toasts on the topic of matchmaking in advance. There are many humorous and quite serious, touching options on the Internet.

What to cook for a wedding at home?

If you're on a budget, still try to prepare dishes based on your guests' preferences. After which you can go shopping for groceries.

You can easily create a wedding menu for 15-25 people yourself. It is enough to prepare 4-5 salads or even less, with a variety of ingredients and place them in several plates so that guests can easily reach them. You should not add the same ingredients everywhere, for example, chicken, olives or mushrooms. You can serve sandwiches, cheese , meat, and fish slices.

For dessert, cake and other sweet delicacies are served with tea or coffee.

It’s a little more difficult to think through a menu for a wedding at home for 20-30 people - it’s no longer so easy to accommodate such a number of people in an ordinary apartment. But nothing is impossible. Each dish should be distributed onto three plates placed at different ends of the table so that everyone can reach it. Then each of the six or seven guests will get a portion of salad, cold cuts, etc. In this case, you won’t have to run to the opposite edge of the table every time to get the appetizer you like. If there are more men than women among those invited, the amount of food should be increased.

  1. In hot weather after the registry office, all guests will want to freshen up, so you need to prepare large quantities of cold drinks and ice. Treats from the supermarket are not very suitable. Let it be better lemon water with pieces of fruit. This drink is best served in a large bowl with ice.
  2. As for cold dishes in summer, they should be presented on lettuce leaves. This could be: several types of vegetables , cheese, seafood, nuts. It is better to put fish in appetizers. They are usually served chilled, so they are stored in the refrigerator before serving.

Don’t forget to take into account the culinary preferences of vegetarian guests, so there should be an abundance of various snacks without meat and fish on the table.

A sample menu for a wedding table might include:

  • light, fresh treats like Caesar, Greek, etc.;
  • seafood, vegetables in any form, wild mushrooms, nuts, chicken breast;
  • cheese, meat, and also fish.

Useful tips for organizing and conducting

If the future newlyweds and their parents do not yet know each other very well , then the game action, taking place according to the script, can produce the opposite effect to the expected one. In order to maintain traditions and not lose face, it is enough to use only generally acceptable details of the matchmaking protocol:

  1. The date and time of matchmaking should be agreed upon in advance. The bride checks with her parents when it is most convenient for them to receive the groom and the matchmakers. It is considered impolite to combine matchmaking with other holidays and events.
  2. The composition of the participants also requires approval. The groom can come not alone, but with a friend or one of the relatives who, in the groom’s opinion, is worthy of being introduced to the bride’s parents.
  3. At the home of the bride's parents, they should only be met by the parents and immediate family members who live with the parents. On this day, a girl should not invite friends, grandmothers, aunts and other relatives to her house who want to meet her chosen one.
  4. Matchmaking involves a feast, that is, the bride and her parents need to carefully consider what they will treat the groom and matchmakers with.
  5. The menu should be generous, with sufficient alcohol.

    There is no specific recommended menu for this case, but general recommendations still exist:

  • When the matchmakers arrive, the table should already be covered with cold snacks
  • After the introductory speech of the matchmakers, the bride's parents invite the guests to sit down at the table and drink to get acquainted, the guests have a snack.
  • After the first toast, the girl and her mother serve hot snacks. It is considered good form if a girl prepares some of them herself. The bride's parents should definitely note this, praise her culinary talent and ask if the groom and matchmakers liked the dishes. The last thing you expect in such situations is to hear the answer “it’s delicious, but mom makes it better.”
  • It would be appropriate for a girl to try to belittle her culinary talents. phrases like “you haven’t tried my pies yet, they just melt in your mouth” on the matchmaking evening; today everyone else praises her.
  • At the initial stage of the feast, the main thing is not to overdo it - the most delicious, usually hot, dish is brought out only after the groom officially proposes and the parents give their consent. Then it is appropriate to seal the agreement by opening a bottle of elite alcohol, specially prepared for this occasion.
  • Desserts, cakes, tea and coffee are not included in the rules for this evening, since these dishes imply the end of the banquet. And according to the logic of the matchmaking evening, the groom is always welcome in the house and does not want him to leave, so they do not offer coffee. But the matchmakers themselves can ask to make them coffee, thereby making it clear that agreements have been reached, the goal has been accomplished and it’s time for them to go. In this case, the parents' house should have candies, cookies or some kind of micro-desserts. There is no need to cook them yourself.
  • The table must be covered with an elegant tablecloth, served with festive dishes, the matchmakers must sit in places of honor, the groom, opposite, and to the left of the bride's father, that is, in a place convenient for negotiations.
  • The girl at the table should be located at a distance from the wife, in the place from which it is most convenient to serve dishes.
  • The bride should also run to the kitchen for salt, change dishes and cutlery on this day.
  • The girl's clothes this evening should be comfortable, but not homely. Fur and lace will also be inappropriate. Depending on the temperature and time of year, any dress of loose styles will do. Dressing up this evening is also well received. The bride can meet the matchmakers in a more elegant dress, and for the hassle associated with changing dishes, she can change into something suitable. Tracksuits and dressing gowns are strictly prohibited. Jeans are also not recommended. If after the feast the bride wants to change her clothes to more elegant ones, then she should not dress in the same dress in which she greeted the guests. Officially, the girl changed her social status by becoming a bride, which means she needs to change her outfit.
  • Among the general recommendations, the bride should highlight her passive role this evening. The girl must show herself as a good housewife, a loving and caring daughter, and certainly not as a talented speaker and successful leader of the “my future wedding” project. The bride's father or the person acting as a guardian will ask for the bride's hand; the girl traditionally acts as a commodity this evening.
  • Matchmaking is a case where the rules of small talk can be broken by asking direct questions about the groom's biography and pedigree. It would be a good idea for the bride’s parents to inquire about the groom’s plans for the future, avoiding any “sharp corners.” In this context, a girl can help her chosen one with answers, but in no case should she rush into the embrasure with her whole breast.
  • Also, the bride’s parents should not show excessive joy at the upcoming event. The groom is not given gifts on the day of matchmaking, even if he really wants to. His trophy on this day is the consent of the parents of the lucky chosen one to give their treasure to him in marriage.

Gingerbread wedding house as an alternative to cake

Traditionally, at the end of the feast, guests are offered a luxurious cake. It must be ordered from the pastry chef the day before. But we suggest presenting a gingerbread house instead.

This product made from special dough appeared in ancient times in Rome and had a shape symbolizing the dwelling of the Gods. In Rus', such a confectionery masterpiece was prepared during the Christmas period.

Nowadays, such masterpieces of confectionery art often appear at wedding events.

The gingerbread house is the personification of the cozy life of the young - everything that symbolizes the beginning of something new and important. In addition, the delicacy is often stylized in a wedding spirit: it is decorated with marzipan hearts and doves.

In a word, such a house is an unusual variation of a wedding cake that will look very attractive on the table. Such an extraordinary house can be a gift for newlyweds and will elegantly decorate a feast.

Modern matchmaking scenario

If you wish, you can prepare a matchmaking script in advance. If the ritual is planned to be traditional, then everything may look something like this:

The bride doesn’t have to show herself to the guests for the first time - this will help maintain the intrigue and will be a little reminiscent of traditional matchmaking, when the girl could sit locked up all the time.

Nowadays matchmaking can be organized in a more unconventional way by preparing a cool scenario in advance:

  1. The groom's matchmakers begin to speak, twisting traditional phrases into a modern twist.
  2. Then they may start asking the girl tricky questions, for example, what kind of instant noodles she will brew, what borscht is made from.
    To make it fun, you can prepare in advance a bag with leaves on which there will be funny answer options.

    The girl, having received a question, without looking, takes out her answer. So, when asked about borscht, you can pull out a set of ingredients such as an axe, a banana and a diaper. When asked what she will swaddle the baby in, the answer may be “cabbage.” It turns out very fun and relaxed.

  3. The bride's relatives can ask the groom to perform a comic task: hammer a crooked nail into a piece of wood or open a jar using improvised means. Another option is tricky questions about salary, housework and helping your future spouse.

The words for matchmaking are prepared in advance, but the texts are all purely individual and depend on the character and habits of the matchmakers, the newlyweds and their parents. It is very important to take into account the characteristics of the parents; perhaps some of them are very reserved and conservative. You can't put anyone in an awkward position. It is better not to use vulgar or sexually suggestive jokes.

Treat recipe

To prepare the dough, you need to use flour - about 300 g, 2 eggs, a glass of honey, butter - 55 g, sugar - 60 g and baking powder - 1 tsp. You also need to take some cloves.

Add the spiced egg to the butter-honey mixture and mix.

Flour is mixed with baking powder and added to this mixture. Once the dough is kneaded, it is rolled into a ball and wrapped in film. It cools down within two hours.

All elements are cut out of paper . For the roof you need two products 12x14 cm, for the walls also two - 6.6x12 cm, for the facade - 16x12, the height of the wall should be 6.6 cm. A pipe is also made from the dough. After rolling out the dough into a layer, the products are placed on the very top and elements of the house are cut out.

Baking the dough takes approximately 10 minutes. The baking temperature should be 180 C.

We wrote above that the scenario can be quite unusual. Some families organize funny competitions, which we will discuss below.

  1. To conduct this competition, you should write in advance on small pieces of paper the various activities that the husband and wife will do after the wedding. For example: swimming with dolphins, drawing on the asphalt, going to the solarium together. Guests take turns taking them out and discussing the answers together. The more unusual they are, the more fun the competition will be. Show your imagination!

What did a young man do when he wanted to get married?

Entire rituals were invented and sacredly observed everywhere. The first thing the young man had to do was obtain the consent of his relatives for the marriage. Only after this the matchmaking itself took place. Customs ordered him to come to the head of the clan and tell about his chosen one. Usually it was reported who she was, where she lived, and what her relatives were. Most often, the young man was interested in the appearance and attractiveness of the young woman. And the relatives conducted a whole “investigation”, finding out whether the girl was worthy of such an honor. When a consensus was found, matchmakers were chosen. It was a very responsible role. And even now nothing has changed. The fellow rarely went to offer himself as a groom (although this happened). More often this was done by his relatives. One has a godfather or mother, the other has an older brother, and so on.

The young man was also present at the ceremony, but tried not to enter into conversations so as not to spoil the matchmaking.

Observance of wedding rituals is very important

In general, it is not difficult to understand how to conduct matchmaking on the part of the groom. You just need to think through every detail of your scenario in advance.

Unfortunately, today very few people observe wedding rituals. But this is completely in vain. Matchmaking is a colorful ceremony filled with fun. Accordingly, it can become a real highlight of your wedding. Depending on your preferences and desires, you can spend it as you see fit, but the main thing is bright and beautiful!

In any case, after the groom asks the bride’s parents for her hand in marriage, they bless the newlyweds, holding icons of the Savior and the Mother of God in their hands.

Beautifully and elegantly dressed matchmakers and the future husband, who are trying to show their best side, must necessarily prove that the bride made the right choice and that he is worthy of her. By the way, sometimes a girl is not given the opportunity to be present at the matchmaking. Her parents simply have every right to ask a variety of sensitive questions, for example, about the financial situation of the groom, about living conditions, about his worldview, about his attitude towards family, marriage and children.

However, the issue of matchmaking is a personal matter for everyone. How it will go is up to the young people and their parents to decide! The main thing is that everything should be remembered by guests and hosts. A carefully planned event leaves extremely positive emotions! You just need to put in a little effort!
