Wedding bouquet of orchids and: roses, calla lilies, freesias, photo

The combination of two flower queens – roses and orchids – in one bouquet looks elegant and sophisticated. The main thing to take into account in such compositions is that they cannot stand in the same vase. Therefore, you should collect flowers in porta bouquets or other structures with a special floral sponge - piaflor. This precaution will prolong the lives of both queens. But if the bouquet is collected on its own stems, then after delivery, it is better to trim the flowers and place them in different vases with water.

Orchid: symbolism and legends

If roses can be given to every woman, and with the right shade chosen, to a man, then with orchids the situation is different. Only in Chinese culture, orchids, designated by a special hieroglyph - lan - symbolize spiritual sophistication, the wisdom of hermitage and physical beauty, both men and women. And therefore, a bouquet with orchids can be given to a Chinese youth or a wise old man. In all other countries, the orchid expresses passion, perfection, sophistication, aristocracy, family comfort and fertility. In Vietnam, orchids symbolize the beginning of the new year and spring. It is then that magnificent queens bloom in this country.

Orchid is one of the most common and ancient types of flowers. They do not grow only in Antarctica. On all other continents, wild species have been identified and classified. The greatest variety of shapes and colors of this plant is observed in the tropical zone. The breadth of its growing area explains a great many myths and tales about the origin of the flower.

According to New Zealand legend, orchids sprouted from fragments of a rainbow that fell to the ground. The beautiful natural multi-colored phenomenon attracted the gods who lived on earth at that time. Everyone wanted to sit on the rainbow and admire its beauty up close. The joy of the spectacle filled the hearts of the gods, and everyone began to sing songs of praise to the natural miracle. Because of the loud singing and bustle, the rainbow, unable to withstand the load, split and fell to the ground. And the multi-colored fragments turned into colorful orchids.

A South American story tells of the miraculous appearance of a white orchid. In one of the tribes, during the period of conversion to Christianity, the aborigines did not want to betray their gods and refused to go to church. The local priest tried in various ways to convert them to his faith, but only the misfortune that befell the residents changed the course of events. For a long time, the villagers languished from the heat and drought; the rains still did not come. They decided to take the beautiful orchid to the temple of the new priest. They took her off the stone idols and placed her on the cross of the church. At that moment, the long-awaited rain poured in and washed away all the color from the flower, turning the petals crystal white. Then the pagan deities were forgotten.

The European version is associated with the gods of Olympus. Beautiful Aphrodite and Adonis hid their mutual passion. That's why they hid about gods and people in the caves of Crete. At one of the moments of secret meetings, Zeus discovered the lovers and began to throw lightning at them in anger. While fleeing, Aphrodite dropped her shoe at the foot of the cliff in which the cave was located. The goddess's slipper turned into a flower of unprecedented beauty, and was called the Lady's Slipper. The names of Venus and Aphrodite are often identified in Byzantine mythology. The Slavs also have other common names for this plant - cuckoo boots, Maryin's shoe or cockerels.

The beauty of the orchid has never given rest to clergy and magicians. The tubers of the flower were used to treat rheumatism, skin diseases, and neuralgia. Dried rhizomes were used as amulets, and fresh ones were used to make stews. European witches made love potions, and African and Peruvian tribes used beautiful flowers in initiation rites. Strong and pleasantly smelling types of orchids are still used in perfumery.

And the stylized image of a flower migrated to heraldry:

  • in Colombia - the coats of arms of the cities of Hardin, San Mateo, Fusagasuga;
  • in Norway - the coat of arms of the commune of Demolition.

The white orchid expresses pure and innocent love, the red and all variegated ones - passion. At the same time it symbolizes fertility and acts as a talisman against physical and moral impotence.

What does the flower symbolize?

An orchid is an elegant, sophisticated, exotic and very spectacular flower. This herbaceous plant has several semantic meanings. According to some sources, the orchid represents wisdom, sophistication and pride. This interpretation is related to the appearance of the plant. However, as other sources note, the orchid symbolizes tenderness, fertility, family comfort, true love and incredible passion. So, in the East, this beautiful flower is identified with the harmony and unity of the souls of lovers, in China - with the sophistication and femininity of the beautiful half of humanity, and in Vietnam - with spring freshness and youth.

Psychologists who use in their practice such effective methods of influencing the human subconscious as florotherapy and color therapy argue that not only the type of grass crop, but also its color plays a significant role. Red orchids are symbols of passionate love and ardent feelings; pink – tenderness, purity and affection; white - wisdom and pride; blue - nobility and fidelity.

The language of flowers can speak about people's feelings and experiences. For this reason, it is recommended to pay attention to the semantic part of the color of the flower arrangement. However, if you do not believe in all these signs and omens, you should not get hung up on it, because the feelings and emotions that the bouquet evokes are important, and not its symbolic meaning.

Floral etiquette

According to an unspoken rule in the Slavic tradition, large-headed flowers are counted by their heads, small-flowered and bush flowers by their stems. Greenery is not counted in a bouquet. The odd number is observed up to a dozen, less often up to 20 flowers. Then this rule becomes irrelevant.

A single flower is given only to the woman you love, but grandiose orchids or large roses are best suited for this purpose. The rest are given in bouquets. A huge number of plants in one composition can negate the beauty of each individual element. Such a gift becomes overly pretentious and overly pompous. However, some girls are able to appreciate only this expression of feelings.

Open roses are given to mature women, mothers, and grandmothers. It is preferable to give half-opened buds to young girls and brides. It is appropriate to give potted plants to elderly ladies; it is also acceptable to present them as a gift to true connoisseurs of growing fresh flowers.

Baskets are given for big celebrations, anniversaries, weddings or when sent by mail. Flower baskets are used in cases where the invitee cannot attend the event. Then a card or note with a message and congratulations must be placed in the middle of the bouquet. It is appropriate to give flowers the day after the event, but no later than noon. Then this can be attributed to late delivery, while later presentation of flowers is a sign of bad taste and disrespect.

Interesting ideas

To create a “living” composition that will look luxurious in wedding photographs, you can use seasonal flowers and even berries. Such options can be thematic. Many florist salons offer brides autumn and spring wedding bouquets, which are made in a certain style and suitable colors.

There are a lot of ideas for cascading bouquets that can be brought to life.

A white and green wedding bouquet-cascade of snow-white large lilies, ruscus, gypsophila and eustomes can highlight a wedding image very advantageously. It can be tied with a soft pink, white or milky ribbon.

How to extend the life of a cut orchid

In a flask with a nutrient solution, the orchid will remain attractive for about a month. But at the same time it is necessary to ensure compliance with a number of care rules:

  • locate away from central heating radiators, other heaters or air conditioners;
  • if possible, lower the room temperature to 16-18 degrees;
  • When ventilating the room, avoid being in a draft;
  • prevent direct sunlight from falling on the petals;
  • after 2-3 days, replace the water in the flasks, pour fresh and clean water with a dissolved nutrient composition for cut flowers;
  • cut the stem a few millimeters once every two days;
  • carry out bathing, once a week immerse the flowers completely in water of 7-10 degrees for a couple of hours.

Low waist dress

This model is suitable for almost any bouquet shape, from small and classic to large and original.

The low waistline is the main accent of such a dress; it draws attention from the bride’s face to the skirt of her wedding dress. The purpose of the bouquet is to return the eyes of guests to the main princess of this holiday

Florists advise paying attention to flowers such as orchids, and also experimenting with unusual bouquet shapes. A bouquet-ring will be a bold decision, it is beautiful and easy to handle

Another little pro tip: a floral wreath looks gorgeous when paired with a low-waist wedding dress.

What to combine with

The orchid is an individualist, so the neighborhood does not perceive it very positively. It is not recommended to place it in a vase with other plants. But to create rich and diverse compositions, there are some visually harmonious tandems. In wedding compositions, the orchid is combined with:

  • lilies;
  • roses;
  • calla lilies

Note: For a wedding celebration, a newfangled option is to collect large orchids and peony-shaped bush roses in a bouquet.

For bouquets on other occasions, cheaper flowers are selected, leaving the dominant role to the orchid:

  • Alstroemeria;
  • chamomile;
  • peonies;
  • tulips;
  • chrysanthemums.

When composing wedding bouquets, it is believed that the size of the bouquet should be smaller, the more magnificent and grandiose the bride’s outfit is. The compositions are complemented with living greenery, beads, sequins, and decorative elements.

What plants are suitable?

Types of flowers suitable for the bride's bouquet:

  • roses - require pruning of thorns;
  • peonies - June wedding;
  • chrysanthemums - combined with small bright flowers, good in winter;
  • hydrangeas - ideal for a spherical bouquet, as well as a winter option, they have bright colors (blue, pink, purple);
  • ranunculi (orange, pink, white) - combined with roses, peonies, lilies;
  • eustoma - for tulips, roses;
  • orchids - for cascading mono-bouquets and in an ensemble with greenery;
  • calla lilies - as an addition to bright small flowers;
  • lilies - choose a variety without a strong odor;

White peonies and soft pink roses go well together. A bouquet of blue and purple airy hydrangeas is extremely beautiful. At a spring wedding, tulips in mono-bouquets and lilies of the valley look great; in the fall, a lush range of colors and a riot of bright colors of dahlias and chrysanthemums look great. Roses are good all year round. And for a summer wedding, preference is given to a bouquet of callas, orchids and lilies.

For the bright newlywed

A wedding bouquet of white roses with purple orchids is suitable for a bride with an expressive appearance or when decorating the entire celebration with bright purple accents. Or if the groom wears a suit that matches the dominant flowers in the young wife’s bouquet. To assemble a beautiful bouquet of two queens you will need:

  • 15 white or light cream open roses;
  • 10 roses of the same tone, but in buds;
  • 1-2 branches of lilac or white-lilac orchid;
  • 4-5 stems of ruscus;
  • floral wire 0.6 mm thick;
  • scissors;
  • knife;
  • light green floral tape;
  • white narrow tape;
  • white satin ribbon;
  • pins;
  • white beads on pins.

Instructions and photos of the sequence of steps for assembling a bouquet of roses and orchids on long stems:

Let's prepare all the necessary equipment and flowers on the table.

We cut the rose stems at an angle of 45 degrees to a length of 40-45 cm.

We clean all the leaves and thorns from the stems with a knife.

For the central part of the bouquet, take three large open roses. Place all three stems at an angle to each other. We place smaller half-closed buds on different sides. Shape it into a hemisphere.

When all the stems are folded, twist them several times and check that all the flowers are in their place.

Unfold the bouquet and trim the stems to the same length.

We tie the bouquet with white adhesive tape so that the roses do not fall apart in different directions while we prepare the orchid flowers.

Place the roses secured with tape in a separate vase.

We correct the buds that protrude higher than the rest and check that the bouquet has the correct rounded shape.

We pick off orchid flowers from a common branch and strengthen them with floral wire and adhesive tape.

On the outer side near the sepals, we pierce the flower through with wire to a length of 5 cm. We bend the shorter part to the length. We form a single “stem”. We isolate the twisted area using light green adhesive tape.

We also strengthen the upper parts of the orchid branches with buds using wire and tape.

We evenly insert orchids and buds on a wire into a bouquet of roses.

Parts of the wire will be visible from the bottom of the bouquet; they need to be decorated. To do this, take ruscus greens.

We attach the stem, measure the approximate length according to the height of the flower stems, and cut with scissors.

We apply the chopped ruscus from below under the buds, hiding the wire elements. Secure the greens with white adhesive tape.

We make a beautiful bow from a satin ribbon and secure it with a pin.

Attach a bow to the bottom of the bouquet.

We insert white beads strung on pins into the centers of some roses.

We tie the stems tightly with a white satin ribbon. We fix the bottom of the ribbon with pins, very carefully insert the sharp edge deep into the middle of the stems so that the bride does not injure her hands.

We cut off all the stems and protruding wire to a length below the white satin ribbon of about 5-7 cm.

Place the bouquet in a vase. If the celebration is scheduled for today, then simply put it in water with a nutrient solution. If the bouquet is collected the day before, then we put it in the refrigerator.

Wedding bouquet of orchids

What types are most commonly used?

The best option for use in bouquet compositions is phalaenopsis orchids. They have fairly thick stems, which guarantees their stability and reduces the risk that the wedding arrangement may be damaged.

Florists recommend using phalaenopsis.

ATTENTION! Among all varieties of orchids, phalaenopsis are the most resistant to climatic conditions, which means they will not fade at the most inopportune moment.

If we talk about colors, they have a good symbolic meaning:

  • White;
  • Cream;
  • Yellow;
  • Pink;
  • Green and other pastel colors.

The following are considered unacceptable at a wedding:

  • Dark blue;
  • Black;
  • Dark purple;
  • Red;
  • Dark burgundy and other dark shades.

Which species last the longest when cut?

In the preparation for the wedding ceremony, every little detail matters . It is also necessary to ensure that the flowers look fresh and blooming throughout the special day.

One of the factors that you should focus on in this case is the flowers that should preferably be in the bouquet. In the case when the bride’s favorite plants are orchids, do not forget that not all flowers of this family may be safe for health.

So in this matter, it is best to choose those specimens of exotics that were bred artificially in breeding laboratories.

This is explained, first of all, by the fact that since the bride carries her bouquet in her hands all day long, the flowers from which it is composed should ideally not have a strong smell . Otherwise, the strong or unpleasant aroma from flowers can cause headaches, dizziness or other painful symptoms.

Among the huge variety of artificial species, the most stable and suitable for use in cut form are the following varieties:

  • Phalaenopsis;
  • Dendrobium;
  • Cattleya.

Symbolism of bud color

In the generally accepted understanding, bouquets should consist of white and soft pink flowers. White orchids, according to popular belief, are a symbol of beauty and innocence, while pink ones symbolize the tenderness and meekness of the newlywed.

yellow orchids are also often used It is customary to decorate the bouquet abundantly with greenery - this is a symbol of wealth and prosperity.

Considering the fact that today most girls prefer not the classic white outfit, but various shades of milky, or even colored dresses that do not correspond much to wedding traditions, all the shades of colors described above will fit harmoniously into the image.

If the wedding dress looks too bright, then the overall image can either be exaggerated with the help of flashy makeup, an equally bright bouquet and theatrical accessories, or balanced and made softer with the help of colors and details of the image in calm tones.

ADVICE! The generally accepted rule is to make a bouquet of flowers that are 1-2 shades darker than the bride’s dress and veil.

One of the fashionable wedding trends is when the flower in the groom's buttonhole is combined in color with the main tones of the bride's outfit and accessories . If your hairstyle involves the use of fresh flowers, it is best to order them along with the materials for the bouquet.

Live orchids can also be used in hairstyles.

Possible combinations

If a girl decides to give preference to arrangements of blue flowers, then she must carefully, literally down to the smallest detail, think through her wedding look. A white dress will look best. However, the presence of blue inserts and decorative elements is allowed. A soft blue outfit will also be very appropriate and harmonious, but only if the shade is very light. If the main tone of the dress is rich, rather azure, then it is better to choose bouquets of other tones.

If the bride intends to wear a blue dress on her most important day, then it should be complemented with a white ribbon and the bouquet should be decorated with the same. It is better to choose jewelry and a garter to match the colors; Swarovski crystals look very good in the decor of the outfit - in any lighting they play with all the colors of the rainbow and create a radiant and slightly fantastic image of the bride. Accessories should be selected in the same style as the floral arrangement. For example, if you are wearing a white dress with blue trim, then it is better to complement the blue bouquet with a white ribbon. Sapphire and turquoise jewelry look good with a blue bouquet.

Wedding pantsuit

Such an unusual choice of wedding dress implies an original bouquet

Florists advise paying attention to the exotic. A tropical theme with palm or monstera leaves and unusual flowers, such as protea or lotus boxes, is perfect for a summer bride in trousers or even shorts.

Beach style and exoticism are not your thing? Then choose a non-trivial composition form - pronounced asymmetry, a crescent or a circle. Any rare flowers in the bouquet will help enhance the effect of the bride’s unconventional image.
