A wedding is a reason to envy for many people (especially for girls who have not been able to get married for a long time). Slavic ancestors were superstitious and tried to protect themselves from troubles through rituals and customs. They thought: evil spirits roam the world and look for happy people in order to ruin their mood or do some dirty tricks. It was believed that evil spirits would bypass the event and the newlyweds would not be in any danger.
