With fruit and berry compositions
The bright ruby shades of an anniversary wedding can be used in a very unusual way in a cake. For example, in the photo you can see that a composition of sculpted sugar fruits and berries is an excellent and cool decoration for a holiday treat . Strawberries, raspberries, pomegranates, ripe red apples and viburnum are just the combinations that are perfect for decorating a confectionery product for the holiday.
With flowers
A win-win option for cakes for both a ruby and other weddings is decor in the form of various flowers. Roses, callas, tulips and burgundy chrysanthemums - all these flowers, made for a cake from sweet ingredients, will perfectly and brightly decorate it. Multi-tiered treats will look especially good if decorations made of flowers and sweet peas are placed asymmetrically on several levels.
With mastic
A cake covered with red or burgundy fondant for a ruby wedding will look very good and stylish. In the photo you can see examples of such treats and, you see, they look impressive and cool. Especially if you are interested in playing with additional topping and experimenting with the color of the mastic - it can be pale red, rich scarlet, shiny kandurin, or with a dark note of burgundy.
With jelly inserts
A cake with jelly rubies is perfect for a ruby wedding. As you can see in the photo , these gelatin inserts look very harmonious and believable, and in fact are very similar to ruby inlay. You can complement this jewelry composition with small silver beads - it will turn out stylish and elegant .
With figured plots
Sugar edible figurines of the bride and groom 40 years ago, or a symbolic pair of already adult spouses celebrating the 40th anniversary of their married life, large and small figures of hearts, wedding rings and other wedding attributes - all this is perfect for holiday treats It turned out to be especially memorable.

How to make a “Ruby Wedding Cake”
1. Grind all the dried fruits in a blender until we get a homogeneous thick paste. Add eggs, milk, sugar and melted butter, mix again until smooth. Next, add flour, soda, cocoa and vanilla. Mix again.
2. Pour the dough into two detachable molds - a larger one and a smaller one with a diameter. Bake at 180 degrees until the toothpick is dry. I had a small cake ready in 35 minutes, a large one in an hour.
3. Let the cakes cool. Next, layer a small cake layer on top of a large one (you can glue them together with jam or honey if you are worried about the strength of the structure) and cover with marzipan or mastic.
4. All my flowers were white, so I diluted red food coloring in different concentrations and kept the flowers in the solution differently: some longer, others less. We place them on the cake from dark to light (or vice versa).
5. I ended up with this cake with an iridescent ruby hue!
Bright ruby color
Juicy and bright red color is the main accent in the cake , which you should bake yourself for a ruby wedding or order from a professional pastry chef. The shade may be the one that you or your parents like most, if they are the culprits of the upcoming holiday. These are raspberry, and delicate red-pink, and the wine color of Marsala, and rich scarlet, and bright red-purple.
Additional elements for decorating a cake for a ruby wedding can also be:
- Mastic in all shades of red;
- Inscriptions with the dates of marriage of the heroes of the occasion and their ruby wedding;
- Molded flowers, fruits, hearts and other decorative figures;
- Beads and edible ribbons;
- Cream and compositions from air mass;
- Decorations made of dense jelly.
We will tell our readers in more detail about the decor and combinations of decorations further, and also show many more photos of interesting and stylish cakes for the upcoming ruby wedding.
Choice of filling and base
When choosing the internal contents of the cake, you need to focus more on the tastes of the heroes of the occasion or choose more classic flavor combinations for desserts. If you are confident that your spouses and guests are ready for non-standard combinations of tastes, then you can experiment.

Ancient traditions and customs for 40th wedding anniversary
The ruby anniversary is a wedding anniversary that is definitely worth celebrating. You need to do this the way you want, but you should not forget about the old traditions of this holiday. What are some traditions that should be followed on a 40th wedding anniversary?
According to ancient tradition, on the day of the fortieth anniversary of married life, the spouses exchange their wedding rings for others, with a ruby inlaid. They put the old rings in a box to pass them on to their grandchildren, and along with the rings they also put the love, experience, and mutual understanding accumulated over many years.
There is an old custom according to which spouses pick cherries with the stems attached from a ruby-colored tree and eat the berries without tearing the stems, and bury the seeds. According to legend, if the couple lived their family life in love, peace and harmony, then after a while two cherry trees with intertwined roots will grow. This beautiful ceremony does not have to be performed directly on the day of the anniversary itself; you can do it throughout the entire year following the date of celebration.
Another good tradition came to us from the Caucasus: spouses should eat one pomegranate between them. Half goes to the husband: eating one ruby grain at a time, he must pay compliments and praise his wife. The wife should also list the virtues of her lover with each pomegranate seed. If the spouses were able to eat a pomegranate, praising each other and not repeating themselves, then they lived their lives happily, in love.
Original wedding cakes without mastic: photos with fruits and berries
In the process of making such a confectionery product, great importance is attached to the artistic decoration of the product with fresh berries and fruits; they can be placed well on the entire surface of the cake or only on its individual sections.
Most often, homemade berries are used to decorate a wedding cake, for example: strawberries, cherries or cherries, homemade raspberries.
You can also use wild berries, for example: blueberries or blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries.
In addition, you can use exotic fruits: bananas, kiwi, pineapples.
One main problem that may arise in this aspect is seasonality. After all, for example, in winter it is almost impossible to find some berries, so this also needs to be taken into account.
Purpose of dessert
At a wedding, it is customary to treat guests not only to the main course, salads and appetizers, but also to dessert.
This tradition is as old as the world, but it was only four centuries ago that sweet cake began to be used as the end of the evening. Before this, the newlyweds treated friends and relatives to bread, loaf, flatbread and other baked goods. Not everyone loves sweets, so some couples decide to give up this custom. However, in this matter you should not focus purely on your tastes, because many guests will want something sweet after the main menu, competitions and dances. The problem is solved if the celebration has a candy bar - a separate table with small portioned desserts, but if it is not there, it is still advisable to order a confectionery product.
A masterpiece of confectionery art is served at the end of the banquet, when the main menu has already exhausted itself, but the general fun continues. The wedding cake without mastic is taken out into the hall to the accompaniment of ceremonial music, and then the newlyweds cut it into portioned pieces and distribute it to the guests. It is believed that such a conclusion to the banquet attracts good luck, happiness and positive events into the life together of the spouses.
Holiday symbolism: why ruby?
As you know, on the 40th anniversary, a husband and his beloved wife are congratulated on their ruby wedding.
But why ruby?
Ruby is primarily a red colored gemstone. It is in (!) second place after the diamond in value. Thanks to the long and painstaking work of a master polisher, it becomes incredibly beautiful and is used for jewelry.
Almost the same thing happens to family relationships over 40 years: they take a very long time to polish, and over the years they live together, they become stronger and stronger, and it becomes easier to withstand the blows of fate.
All this lifelong “sharpening” of each other brings two people closer, increasing their mutual respect and multiplying love. Thus, their love flares up with renewed vigor, becoming even more precious. No wonder such efforts require a medal!
Many people associate the love that survived to the ruby wedding with the symbol of the holiday - with scarlet lips, dark Burgundy roses, and a blood-red heart. All this was combined in one symbol - the ruby.
